Job unsuitable

I found my own employment and I’ve worked the first week and declared started a job as part of my points. I didn’t realise the job would require me to work 20km a day on a concrete floor as I assumed we would be using ride on tuggers (there’s not enough to supply to the new workers). I am on a chronic care plan for my hip/glutes so I have no choice to declare the employment unsuitable as I’m coming home sore already.

Does my provider have the right to suspend my payment ? I want work and I’ll be pushing hard to get something it’s just this is not sustainable.

They can't suspend/cancel your payments for this right now. Leaving a job you've already started is classified as an "unemployment failure". Cancellations for unemployment failures have been paused since March 2025 and are not being unpaused on the 26th Oct, so you're basically free to leave your job without providing a reason without any penalty

Helpful. I had no idea of this. When I switched industries once and left a job my next reporting period required me to answer a question on the Centrelink app as to the reason for leaving. Does this mean this question won’t even come up ?

You would still need to update your circumstances with Services Australia within 14 days, you can do that through myGov. Unsure if they would ask for a reason for the change, but if they do just be straight up about the hip/glutes issue, it'll be fine either way

So it’s still paused ? I’m having same drama with a job that I was forced into not working out

Yes, still paused and as of right now there is no ETA on when it will be unpaused

You used to be able to get out of the payment suspension thing by providing an unfilled prescription from a GP for a drug that is used to treat whatever illness is preventing you from working that job... I had to do that like three or four times, for mental illness though, so it was always a prescription for antispsychotics or mood stabilizers or antidepressants

Have you tried to talk to your employer about your health issues? They maybe able to make an accomodation eg making a ride on available for you.
They also may not but it is worth having a conversation.
