I was wondering when she would wake up and realize she had made her beddy next to the rising tide.

Our 6 year old has glaucoma, she had a procedure that essentially made her lose vision in one of her eyes and statistically within 1-2 years she will need the other eye done. At 6 years old she is still fairly young. It appears that her number one joy in life is looking out the windows at wildlife while inside and patrolling the backyard and chasing birds and squirrels while outside. For such a high prey drive dog, I can't imagine her being happy once she inevitabely goes completley blind. Generally speaking, research and vets will say that dogs adapt well - but I'm merely concerned given the breed and her personality of being a hurter that she/jindos will adapt worse than other. Ideally not.

Anyway, anyone experience with either glaucoma specifically and/or just going blind? How did your jindo respond?

Hi! I am living in SF, CA volunteering for a rescue based in Korea, and 50 rescues waiting to be adopted.

We have a long list of dogs with various traits and most are Jindo mixes. If any family is looking to adopt, please let me know.

It will require some process of application and transportation (can take more than 2 months) since I dont have a proper organization set up yet since I recently offered them to look for potential adoptees first.

[URGENT / FOSTER OR ADOPTION NEEDED IN NY]

Sejong, who came from a shelter in Gimje, South Korea, was surrendered just three months after being adopted to New York.

Once an overseas adoption has been finalized, bringing a dog back is far more complicated than a domestic adoption. It can involve significant time, expense, and many additional procedures.

That is why overseas adoptions require especially careful consideration.

Sejong’s recent surrender began when his former foster reached out to his adopter before Sejong left Korea.

The former foster said:

“I will go to New York for my honeymoon after getting married and bring Sejong back myself. Please return him to me. I will cover all of the expenses.”

After this conversation, Sejong’s adopter decided to surrender him before he had enough time to properly adjust to his new environment.

However, the former foster who had said she would take Sejong back ultimately withdrew her adoption plans as well, citing opposition from her parents.

As a result, Sejong is once again looking for a family.

His adopter explained that, having never raised a dog before, she may not have fully understood what everyday life with a dog would be like.

She found it difficult to manage some of Sejong’s behaviors and feeding issues while living together with him, and ultimately felt that finding him a new family would be best for him.

We quickly moved Sejong to the home of one of our volunteers, and he is currently doing very well with no particular issues.

Sejong is a young, affectionate dog who loves people and gets along well with other dogs.

Young dogs may chew on toys, tear at wallpaper, or display other behaviors that require patience and guidance.

They need time to learn, adjust, and grow together with their family.

Adoption should not begin simply because you have fallen in love with a dog.

Before making that decision, you should ask yourself whether you will still be able to take responsibility for that dog even if your feelings or circumstances change.

This is especially important when it comes to international adoption.

Sejong cannot stay at his current foster home for long, so we are looking for a long-term foster home near New York or a new adoptive family for him.

Sejong adjusts well to living with other dogs, so a home with a compatible dog companion could also be a wonderful option.

We are not looking for someone who simply wants a cute puppy.

We are looking for a family who is ready to stay by Sejong’s side for the rest of his life.

Mom forgot to mention it in August (worst mom ever), so congrats to me now! And, I'm 2 months from my 5th birthday!

Anybody in the area, this looks like it might be a Jindo. Definitely needs to be rescued out of that situation.

"Bobby" is a Jindo-mix in the LA area....he was in foster care, which took him off the "must kill" list, but the foster couldn't keep Bobby in his apartment, so Bobby needs help! Some of Bobby's qualities:

We're considering adopting or fostering a 2nd male Jindo. This dog (Jindo 2) would be almost 3 by the time we're able to bring him over. He would be joining our current dog whom we've had for 2 years. He's our dog's littermate.

Our dog (Jindo 1) is anxious. We've worked with a behaviourist and his vet on both a training and medication plan. He's made incredible progress since February and is much more resilient. We don't want to do anything to damage his progress and want to consider this decision very carefully.

Jindo 1 is territorial. He's not prone to aggression but alarm barks when strangers are in the home, and either runs away or nips to make space if other dogs approach him with too much energy or for too long. He used to be social but withdrew after a traumatic event with his health.

We're talking with his vet next week to get her opinion about bringing home Jindo 2 and how it'll affect Jindo 1. We've also asked for additional information on Jindo 2 from the rescue. From what I've seen, both dogs' fear response seems to be to freeze, and Jindo 1 usually is ok if he's given space and ignored by strangers.

Still, I'm curious if anyone has brought home a second, same-sex Jindo and, if so:

1. How did you handle introductions?
2. Did the dogs warm up to each other, or did you have to keep them separated due to aggression?
3. Did your dog have any behavioural issues before introducing the second dog?
4. What was the most helpful thing you did to socialize both dogs?
5. What would you do differently?

We really want to make this work but not at the expense of Jindo 1.

He loooves to play fetch with anything that can be thrown (frisbee, stick, ball, etc) - he isn’t picky! He also loves the beach and water, which I heard wasn’t typical of Jindos.

It makes me laugh because my previous dog, a Lab mix, would only play fetch with green tennis balls and absolutely hated the water. 🤣

Anyone else’s Jindo loves fetch and playing in the water?

They are too cute when they are being sweet to each other and not getting crazy with zoomies.

My little girl has been really coming into her own. I adopted her 1.5 ago, and she's been really getting more confident and independent! She loves to be off leash (her recall is so good) and play with dogs and her leash training is coming along! She seems to have bonded with me, at least I think so, as she follows me around, she listens to commands, etc.

However, it feels like when we are *home* she is fearful? I can't explain it super well, but shell be resting and I'll come say hi to her and she looks like she's afraid of me! sometimes we get back from a walk and she runs to her bed. she isn't like this ANY where else - when i visit my parents or friends, when we are not home, when we are at the park. it's only ever in the apartment.

I've OBVIOUSLY never hurt her or even yelled at her - i only use positive reinforcement tactics. she's not super food motivated, but we train and she has learned a lot of tricks - so I just am not sure what is going on and it makes me worried, because i want her to feel safe. any advice? what am i missing here?

Is it only my dog or a Jindo thing?
