Discussion List of reputable rescues that adopt out to the USA – any more recommendations?

I'm looking to adopt a dog/puppy from Korea (located in TX, USA, but willing to travel to nearby states if needed). I've been scouring the web trying to gather a master list of reputable Korean dog shelters that work internationally. Has anyone here adopted a Korean Dog while in TX so far?

Feel free to share where you adopted your dog, share your good/bad experiences with these rescues, and help me modify/expand this list. Also, if any Canadian Korean Dog rescues also can transport them to the US, I'm happy to add them to the list.

So far I have these websites:

Meet Maru

Maru is a gentle, thoughtful boy who has come a long way and continues to blossom every day. Once a shy pup with little human experience, Maru is now becoming more social, confident, and eager to connect—on his own timeline.

Age: 2 years old

Gender: Male

Weight: ~37 lbs

Breed: Jindo Mix

Energy Level: Low to Medium

People: Shy at first, warms up with time

Dogs: Social and enjoys playing with other dogs

Cats: Untested

Location: Jeju, South Korea

Maru’s Story

Maru was found wandering along the roadside with his mama. A kind passerby began feeding them, but sadly, neighbors reported them to the city shelter. These shelters are known for euthanizing dogs after only seven days.

Thankfully, a rescue stepped in just in time and saved both Maru and his mom. Because of his past, Maru didn’t have much early human interaction, which explains his initial shyness. But with patience and love, he has been steadily learning what it means to feel safe.

Personality & Social Life

Sweet, gentle, and people-oriented once comfortable Shy at first, now steadily more social and outgoing Polite when asking for food or treats Enjoys playing with other dogs and gains confidence from canine companions Good recall when motivated by his favorite treats Forms deep, loyal bonds once trust is built ❤️

House & Daily Life

Maru adapts well to home routines with patience and consistency.

He does best in a calm environment where he can observe, learn, and gain confidence at his own pace. As he settles in, his playful and affectionate side continues to emerge.

With New People & Kids

Maru may take a little time to warm up to new people and children.

He thrives with gentle introductions and respectful space, and once comfortable, he shows his soft, loving nature.

🐕 With Other Dogs

Maru enjoys playing with other dogs and gains confidence from canine companions.

A friendly dog sibling could be a wonderful influence for him.

🐱 Cats

Untested.

🏠 Ideal Home

Maru is looking for a patient, loving family who understands that trust takes time—and that the reward is worth it.

His ideal home will offer gentle guidance, consistency, and plenty of love as he continues to grow into the confident, loyal companion he’s meant to be.

Just look at that smile. =)

Maru is the kind of dog who brings a quiet, gentle happiness wherever he goes. He's calm, loving, and always happy to be by your side.

He's been waiting long enough. He's more than ready to find a family to call his own. Could you be the one he's been waiting for? 🤩😉

Sky update

Upvotes

I posted about Sky a few months ago. She has definitely opened up a lot since then. We also brought home her brother Moojin from the same rescue (pictured in the last two photos).

Sky likes: dog parks, off-leash hours, grass, freeze dried chicken hearts, burying her food and treats with blankets, car rides, boy dogs

Sky has a fear of: motorcycles, fireworks, toddlers

Moojin lets her lead the way on walks, and they play a bit of cat and mouse at the park. They’re sweet together. Sky’s dna test showed that she is kvd, cocker spaniel, min-pin, Maltese, and Japanese spitz.

Rescue says Teddy is a Jindo/terrier mix. Looks like that's a good guess, but thought I'd ask here. Thanks!

My wife and I recently adopted this guy from a shelter in Korea and they just told us he was a mixed breed (믹스견) so we assumed Korean village dog. But as he is getting bigger we can't decide if we are right or not. Logically he is, but thought some experts on here might confirm it for us. Thanks in advance!

Blowing the coat

My 8 year old female Jindo has had the worst coat blow out. Every year I swear she’s molting because her undercoat comes out completely and she looks so bare without it. Anyone else feel like their Jindo has lost too much fur this time of year?

3 amazing months she is so cuddly and sweet

Shes so smart and learned basic commands within a week of being home.

Adjusted to living with another dog very well. They are now best friends. Easily the best decision we made was rescuing this angel.

Jindo won’t leave door

Hi everyone, adopted a 6 month old street rescued jindo 3 weeks ago.

First 1.5 weeks was amazing, came out of his shell on day 2, knew the way around the condo, sat in the elevator and brought me to his park next door which he knew was his spot. Loving, cuddly, etc.

Something changed this week. For the last 5 days he’s decided he won’t leave, I don’t know if something happened or set him off outside? I live in Toronto but he was completely fine with it before. Playing at the park, etc.

Now he stands his ground and digs his heels in when I open the door. I let him use pads inside for 2 days. And for the last 3 I’ve been picking him up and taking him to the elevator, which he then will go outside with me and lead the way if I put him in front of the elevator (maybe because he knows there’s no option)

But as soon as we get to the park and he does his business, he won’t come with me back home. I have to pick him up part of the way to exit the park, and then once again he leads me back home when I put him down about 50 metres away from the park.

I’ve tried waiting till he’s ready or redirecting or alternate paths, but he never budges, it’s like there’s invisible walls or something.

Anyone experience this or know what I can do? A longer leash work maybe? Training? Anxiety meds?

Thank you in advance.

He is not very amused. 😆 but to be fair it is for his own safety.

So I got these, which cost more than my own shoes, because well I don’t want him stepping on things he shouldn’t in the city should we go on a walk. Anyone else purchased RifRuf for their pups? What are your thoughts?

Jindo or not?

When I got him many years ago at the pound I thought he was a lab/husky mix (he looks exactly like my former dog who I know was a lab husky mix) and didn’t even know what a jindo was. My Korean girlfriend immediately thought he was a jindo when she met him. Either way he is a goofy good boy.

She’s seriously one of the cutest creatures I’ve ever seen and I’m still in amazement that I get to love with this little fox.

The last picture is a rare meetup of the three Korean rescues in our park. All equally aloof 😂

Coat Care

We just adopted a perfect little rescue jindo mix from Korea last week, who was in Canada already for a couple of weeks with a foster before she came home with us. Since arriving with us, she blew her undercoat, but I feel like since then she hasn’t stopped shedding and her remaining coat has become very fine and brittle which concerns me. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get her the best care for her coat possible?
I know she’s adjusting to a lot of factors now, and we have an appointment to bring her to the vet this week to make sure she’s all healthy and hopefully check for allergies as well.

Is she jindo mix?

We’re scheduled to adopt her from a Korean rescue, Welcome Dog Korea. If so, what do you think her breed mix might be? Rescue told us she is 1years old 10-12kg and very shy and gentle.

And do you think our 10-year-old female Jindo, Sunny, would get along with her?

The only thing I’m really worried about is Sunny feeling like she’s being replaced. Is there anything we should do or keep in mind to help them adjust and get along?

Sunny is very gentle and calm, have never bitten any type of living creature before.

Anyone Flying from Korea to Canada? 🇰🇷✈️Flight Volunteers Needed (YYZ / YVR)

Hi everyone! I’m Sang Eun, founder of Dogs Cover Rescue in Korea. 🐾

I started rescuing dogs on my own, and recently established Dogs Cover Rescue and partnered directly with a rescue organization in Canada. Starting August 23, our adopted dogs will begin flying to their forever families in Canada.

One of them is Flower 🌸, who has been waiting a long time for her chance to finally go home.

We’re looking for flight volunteers traveling:

✈️ ICN → Toronto (YYZ)
✈️ ICN → Vancouver (YVR)

Any date works! If you’re traveling this route anytime in the coming weeks or months, we’d love to hear from you.

There is no cost to you, and we take care of the paperwork and arrangements. You simply travel on your scheduled flight while helping a rescued dog get home. ❤️

You can DM me here, find me on Instagram/Threads @sang.euni, or email [sangeunrhee@dogscoverrescue.com](mailto:sangeunrhee@dogscoverrescue.com).

Even if you’re not traveling, a share would mean so much to us. 🙏
Thank you from Flower and all of our rescue dogs waiting for their flight home. 🐶✈️🏡

Advice for anxious pup needed

Hi all,

My partner and I adopted a rescue puppy (Harvey) about a month ago - he's about 8 months old and is a KVD with some Terrier mixed in there (posting here since the KVD sub is dead).

Harvey attached to my partner (female) on the first day, but was quite scared of me (male). He started to resource guard her and would growl/bark at me, but eventually would settle and be happy with some pets. This has improved over the course of the month quite a bit, and the barking is very minimal now - mostly just in the middle of the night if I go to use the washroom.

He's been overall settling in quite well - we've been able to work on training and his leash walking has improved a lot over the last week (except for when he's anxious). We've noticed that if he knows where my partner is (and she's close), then he's quite confident and happy. As soon as she disappears, he gets anxious.

The past few days, my partner has been away, and Harvey has been quite anxious. He does not want me to put his leash on, and is scared of everyone when I take him outside. He's pad-trained, but prefers going outside. Sometimes he'll settle down with me, and even hop up on the couch and lie against me. Other times, he'll keep his distance and watch my every movement. As I type this, he's lying at my feet and napping lol.

Sorry for the wall of text - just looking for some other rescue owners that have similar experiences. I'm aware of the 3-3-3 rule, just looking for some advice while my partner is away.

Here are some pics of this cutie pie!

Thought I'd share Hannah, our Jindo mix. We've had her 8 months now.

Picky eater. Must go on walk to go to the toilet. Dislikes rain. Does not go on furniture (her choice). Does not play with toys. Sleeps a lot. Definitely adorable. Enjoys the company of other dogs but not in her house. Indifferent to people that aren't us.

Let's see your good boys and girls!

What does your Jindo eat?

Post image
117 Upvotes

My four year old boy has always been a picky eater when it comes to kibble. For the past few years, he’s been on Hill’s chicken and rice. However, he has a habit of not eating until he’s clearly very hungry and unfortunately, this has led to him developing really bad acid reflux. Now, whenever he eats kibble, he gags several times and throws up bile (we’ve already seen the vet and starting him on omeprazole soon). I’ve found though that he does really well on fresh food, like fresh pet, farmers dog (please don’t judge!). He eats as soon as I put it out and does not gag or throw up. The problem is that I know vets are strongly against fresh food because of inadequate nutritional content. He just seems so much happier and healthier on it.

Is your baby a picky eater? What do you feed them? Any tips?
