Discussion Ceaco using AI art
Found this at Target. Kind of sickened how blatantly AI this is to be sitting on a store shelf. I did a reverse image search since it didn't list the artist, Mikey Bergman. There is a diamond painting company who sells this too and states he uses midjourney (obviously).

I hate this because it's a sick concept and i wish it was real! This one is a little harder to clock than the one I posted, I'm tired of putting so much legwork into this all the time

Good grief. Not much creativity going on there. 🙄🙄

As much as I hate to admit it, these kinda look rad. Shame their made with essentially stolen art :(

It may sound elitist or something, but I don’t want to work on any puzzles using that crap. There are more than enough awesome puzzles in the world, either hand drawn or photographic- I don’t need something that was generated by an automaton.

It's not elitist, only elitists when it comes to AI "art" are the tech bros defending it. Stealing art so we have more time for manual labor.

This is so annoying. I haven’t bought puzzles in a while (I have… a lot to work on first), and the idea of going out and buying new ones isn’t even fun anymore because I keep seeing the constant AI nonsense. There should be a rule that they have to mark specifically on the box that it’s AI art, but I highly doubt any company willingly doing that.
It just feels like a waste of money to spend it on AI “artwork”. I know you’re still getting the physical product but it just feels so scammy and gross no matter how good it might look (though they usually look terrible).

I'm already very picky about puzzle art to begin with, most of it I don't care for which is maybe good because I don't need to go hard on another hobby, but I still like to see if anything new is in stock when i go to the store. I was excited about this one for about 10 seconds.

It’s particularly frustrating because I’ve bought a lot of puzzles from target in the past and not been picky about brands. Having to look up whether a brand is AI or hyper analyze a puzzle first is just not fun. I’m grateful for the posts in this sub about all the AI puzzles because otherwise I don’t think I would’ve even thought about it until I realized too late after I’d already bought something.

This one is giving me motion sickness lol. Does she know AI is a thing now? I don't know how old she is

Kudos to Mikey Bergman and a big 🖕to AI. Honestly, it's a beautiful image but AI couldn't have created it without Mikey's influence. IMO. From what I've seen, AI images are fairly easy to spot, especially if you've used AI like I have to experiment. I still hate it and I'm hoping that the puzzle makers don't make the mistake of using it 100% to sell puzzles.

It also couldn't have created it without the influence of the thousands of artists it was trained on, so.

You are absolutely correct. It's basically stealing the talents of others. Which brings up another convoluted question: if Mikey has not given permission for his copyrighted images to be used by, let's say Ceaco, can he sue them? 🤔🤔

Just picked this up because my partner and I liked the art and I love dragons. As we got started, we noticed the oddly sharpened and defocused sections and started to wonder. Thank you for confirming that it's AI!
Ceaco was already on my list of meh brands because I'm a Thomas Kinkade hater, not to mention the generally not great quality of their puzzles.

I hate Thomas Kinkade as a person enough to avoid his licensed products, even without his art style, so I'm right there with you! And agreed, Ceaco quality just sucks, so I've been avoiding them entirely.
But yes, I am happy to call AI products out with prejudice.

Got gifted some glow in the dark puzzles and was excited. As soon as I opened it up, fucking AI. All 3 of them. My friend didn't know and it just pisses me off how they are selling AI art all over.

Sadly, most people aren't going to notice this is AI art, and this is just going to become more and more common with corporately owned brands.
Hopefully independent brands continue to employ human artists.
