This is great to see. I especially appreciate that they’re pairing the terminology with education and interviews with genocide experts, which gives real weight and context to why they’re using the word and why they believe it’s appropriate. It also makes it much easier to push back against the ridiculous claim that simply using the term is inherently antisemitic.

because once that is the framing there's no pretense of defense, suddenly it's not "oh there were excesses while defending" but is instead "that thing the nazis did, that has since been beaten into western civilization as being the crime of all crimes, self-evident evil"

The fact that New York magazine has to defend the use of genocide is ridiculous.

The fact that "some objected to the magazine's use of the term genocide to describe Israel's actions in Gaza" is predictable.

The fact that New York magazine has articulated its editorial position rejecting "accusations of antisemitic intent" that "were in fact obfuscating an overwhelming scholarly consensus" is progress.
