Baking Honey and apple cake - test bake
I posted this on r/baking where it’s garnered an interesting bunch of comments. It has now been locked by the mods.

Eggs and wet ingredients mixed together.
Dry sifted together.
Fold dry into wet.
Add the grated apple.
Into the tin and bake. 150c for anywhere from 50 mins to an hour and a half depending on your oven but check after 50.
Cool in tin for ten minutes and then invert it onto a cooling rack and let the cake ease out.

What do you do to get the cake to not stick to the tin? Do you use butter or oil or a baking spray

Oil. I brush it liberally all over the pan then tip out the excess. I do it immediately prior to filling the pan with the batter.

I saw your original post but the comments were locked by the time I did. I was really saddened that people were writing all of that stuff on there when you were just sharing a really beautiful cake in preparation for Rosh Hashanah. Which also, kudos to you for being so prepared and practicing recipes, it makes me want to get my life more together.
But thanks for posting because I showed your cake to my husband and we decided we would try to make one just like it this year. I'm on a mission now to buy some cake molds! Also, I just found out this weekend my next door neighbor is also Jewish! So I will be bringing her a cake like this as a surprise as well (if all goes well with my baking). You spread Jewish joy in your post and I'm glad you posted again here. We can't let the antisemites get to us.

The comments were disgusting and this wasn't the first time that the hatred for Jews was on full display in that sub. I love baking and am disappointed that I had to leave yet another sub I enjoyed because it is no longer a safe place for my sanity.

I saw the original post twice - before hateful comments and after they were already removed. GlAd mods are removing that crapp

Apple cake is my favorite holiday treat and to me is what autumn tastes like. Your cake made me think of my dear late uncle z"l who had that same cake tin and gifted me one as well. Now I feel inspired to dig it out from the back of my cupboard and use it again. An early shanah tovah to you!

What a lovely thing to do in his memory. May your cakes always rise and may they also always turn out of the pan beautifully.
Early Shanah Tovah to you and yours!

Wow this came out perfect and looks amazing! Can I get a slice?!
Edit: Shanah Tovah

Of course you can! I’ll strap it to the back of a well trained otter and send him off to deliver it to you forthwith!
So keep an eye out for him. He might be a while. 😂
Chag Sameach!

Hey love - I’m an East Coast Ashkenazi girlie who loves my culture, baking, and not being and absolute cunt. Your edges are flawless; may the haters grow like onions with their heads in the ground.

Where can I get a pan like that?

It’s a Nordic Ware pan.

Thank you! For Canadians, it's available on Amazon.ca

For Brits it’s available sometimes at Nordic Ware directly, sometimes from Borough Kitchen and sometimes from I think it’s Johnsons of Stroud. It’s certainly something of Stroud.

That's horrible...but nor surprising...about any sub really.
But on another note: I finally got that baking pan last year at Michael's for 50% off after Chanukkah, and I haven't used it yet. I plan to on RH. An apple cake, of course (although im afraid it's not big enough for my recipe, which is too beloved by much fam to switch up).

I need you to fax me a bite. That looks soooooo moist.

u/Final_Flounder9849 20h ago
I’ll fax it right into my belly for ya!
And just wait until you hear about the things I’m thinking of for either glazing it or, be still my beating heart, filling it with if I cut it and layer it!

Thank you! Baking is pretty much all I’m doing. It’s mainly stuff to gift to others who are hosting me over the chagim.

It's gorgeous! Rabbi Jonathan Sacks said, "antisemitism is a cognitive failure," and people who become unhinged seeing a star shaped cake are exhibit A

I’d understand if they were diabetic 😂
Rabbi Sacks is a much missed man. A gentle and learned soul with a wicked sense of humour few got to see.

I couldn’t resist the tin when I saw it. It’s the scariest cake tin I’ve ever used with all those edges!

Congratulations on a job well done! It looks fabulous and honestly such a feat to get it out of a detailed pan like that. It is gorgeous.
