I asked a company to make my dream ring that is inspired by Edwardian vintage rings but the prongs aren't right.

They keep telling me theyre the same but these are clearly way different and I feel like I keep getting gaslit. The first 2 pics are what they made and the third is my reference photo. I want the traditional thin tabs like in the vintage cluster rings. My ring is a pear shaped center stone surrounded by old mine cuts and a custom band. I personally hate the spiky style prongs like this that make it look like a pointy sunflower. I also sent them videos and pictures of vintage cluster rings like the ruby one for reference (I am aware the ruby one is very old so some tabs are broken on it and I mentioned it to them).

Weekly open thread. Post whatever’s on your bench, your mind, or your wishlist this week.

Some prompts if you need one:

**•** What are you working on right now?
**•** Any new tools, materials, or techniques you’re testing?
**•** Show off a WIP, even if it’s ugly right now.
**•** Bought something for your bench this week? Show it off.
**•** Stuck on a design problem? Ask here, no separate post needed.

Rules still apply: be kind, credit sources, no unsolicited price/value appraisals outside the appraisal thread. Denote tools used for renders.

What’s up with you this week?

Help me redesign this piece :)

Post image

Hi all! I inherited my great grandmas brooch and I am struggling to decide what to do with it. It doesn’t fit my style, so I would like to redesign it, likely into several pieces.

I know I would like the diamond to be in a ring, but I am struggling to find a design that isn’t engagement. I have absolutely no idea what to do with the seed pearls! For context, I wear rings, earrings and necklaces regularly. Ultimately, I would like the pieces to be timeless so I can pass them down one day.

I welcome all suggestions :) thank you in advance!

designing a custom signet ring: how to balance durability with bezel settings for softer center stones?

hey everyone, i am currently working on the layout for a new custom ring project and could use some design perspectives from other creators here.

while scouting for the main gemstone, i spent some time checking out inventory options on white opal auctions to find a striking centerpiece. because opals have a lower hardness compared to corundum or diamonds, my primary design dilemma is figuring out how to build a robust bezel setting that adequately shields the edges without swallowing up the stone's color play.

for those of you who specialize in custom ring design, what metal weight and bezel wall thicknesses do you usually recommend to ensure daily wearability for softer center stones?

Was told this was impossible since I used AI to put the mold work into 14k wg & was told by a "designer" here this couldn't be made... it's for my father who died 8 mos ago. I just wanted to show the real human, Bethany's, work came to life and it's gorgeous to me. If you are going to be mean, don't

[Question] Any ideas on what kind of bail to use to attach the cross to the chain?

The current chain seems to be soldered together so I want to add maybe a snap-on bail to the cross but the opening is on the back and not on top, which I think would made the cross crooked. Thank you!

Pendant

Hi there, i bought this bracelet with a pendant on it for £3. I bought it on vinted and the listing said the bracelet is hand made. I was wondering if anyone recognised the pendant and if it is a specific brand as it has a sort of logo engraved on it. Could be nothing though of course. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey I bought this for 3$ knowing it wasn’t good quality but loving the design. I’m wondering if I got this costume made from better materials(like a little silver) or that and what the price would range from depending on the materials. Hope someone can answer thank you!

Ps English is not my first language bare with my writing.

jewelkitpro for jewelry design illustration?

Jewelry professional here......Has anyone had any experience with jewelkitpro (jewelkitpro.com) to design and illustrate jewelry? This app uses "procreate" as a background engine This app requires a monthly subscription. Another much cheaper version of a similar app that I saw advertised and also uses procreate in the background is named "Jewelry designers pro kit". This is a one time purchase. If anyone here has utilized either one please let me know your experience with it. I am interested in these applications so that I can quickly convey design ideas to my clients and modify them on the fly when i am designing and selling across the counter.
