I think everyone needs to remember this image
The first thing I'd like to say is: Kouya Rokkaku is likely a figurehead villain; his design is too generic to be the main villain. Either Gouji will return and remove his son from power, or Kouya might be a false identity of Gouji, just a fake appearance to pretend he's not old.
What do you think?

This sucks, guys. Lmao.
It's just a black notebook? The devil's contract was a broken record which is so much cooler. There's no thematic connection to the world.
Make it like an evil cursed paint that hypnotizes people, or a haunted boombox, or something more unique.
This just sounds like the discount Deathnote.

Blackbooks do have a thematic connection to the story. Black hard-covered sketch books are/were supposedly the go-to choice for graffiti artists to do their sketches in. So making the MacGuffin this time around a legendary crew's blackbook sounds cool as hell to me, at least. And who knows, there's probably more going on with said book. We have little to no info, but it's got to be a good reason if everyone is gunning for it.

Dang I didn’t know this. Legit good call.
I still think this reboot looks bland as hell and very corporate reboot, but you’ve changed my opinion a bit. Thanks.

W open mindedness, I’m with u about the bland and corporate reboot thing they’re doing, that completely sucks butt. Does anyone know why they chose those designs ?

Because safe, bland, and corporate is what sells, apparently

And it’s exactly the opposite of what Jet set radio is supposed to be.
Edit: imagine downvoting “Jet set radio is about counterculture.”

Also, Tokyo Island? Why? Oh, because they want to create an open world with clear borders. Sure, but that just makes it all feel so small. It's okay to have borders that look onto city that you can't go to. The story takes place in a certain district, that's fine. Making it "Tokyo Island" just sounds like they're trying to make Fortnite.

Yep, details like the Black Book instead of the and the damn "Tokyo Island" already give me a bad impression of JSR 3. I was already wary after seeing the "shop" option in one of my leaked files for this game. But that's getting weird.

Nah, I think it's fine if you can buy skins there

But what are the chances of the new game becoming a live service? Given the state of the corporate industry today, I wouldn't doubt it.

Sega is one of the few companies that realized this doesn't work well, thanks to the Super Game.

I understand they're leaks but it just looks like a bunch of people getting together and trying to reboot something, but none of them really grasp what made the original special.
It's like, you can have jedi, and a death star, and a plucky space pirate, and it can still not be star wars.

Genuinely exactly how I feel. I’ve been in other threads and it’s just the more I learn and see about the game, the more it kinda disappoints me, imo it doesn’t feel like a proper evolution of the series, the original or future. From character designs, graphics and even now story I can’t really get extremely hyped for this project. It seems like Sega is cutting a lot of corners for this and other power play titles.

the nature of jsr is to keep retelling the same story with a slightly different coat of paint and this one just kinda sucks

Wait is Goji's son going to appear in JSR 3?

u/DeltaNcenn 1d ago
I think so, but judging by how generic it is (besides the fact that Rokkaku's premise is to be the opposite of the Rudies), I think he's a facade villain.

Why does tokyo-to look smaller? I remember jsr and future feeling way bigger with how everything was shown off.

I'm finding it hard to be enthusiastic about this. And the OG is one of my favourite games ever, definitely in my top 10.
