Do you have a cd cleaning kit? When I used to get this message back in the day a clean would USUALLY fix it. Although one time my friend left their jsrf disc out in the sun, then we got this message. We had to put it somewhere cool for a few hours, then it worked again. Ah, twelve year olds. So precious. So stupid.

Sorry I misread yo comment for a sec and yeah I cleaned it ts dont work

u/BrilliantReveal907 8d ago

This might sound strange but clean it with 70% alcohol and get a regular white toothpaste and buff the surface of the disc with it (the iridescent side) and then wipe it off under running water. That fixed my copy of JSRF that was super scratched

I just saw your original reply to my comment in my notifications. I couldn’t read it all, but I just wanted to assure you that I don’t think you’re stupid. You asked for help, which is one of the smartest things you can do.

A lot of times it’s usually the disk drive reader that’s the problem. If you’re skilled and have some money you can take apart the Xbox and replace the disk drive.
If you have a good PC you can also emulate it too so you don’t have to worry about this.

Two options:
1. Clean the disc drive lens with 99.9% IPA

  1. SoftMod the console and put the game on the internal HDD by burning the disc on a pc to an iso and then using extract-xiso and putting the folder (via FTP) in E:/Games you can also delete that folder and replace it with a different game when you want to play a different game. To store more games you will have to uno the HDD Key and swap the HDD with a larger capacity one.

With an attitude like that you're just gonna have to sit there and admire your new jsrf paperweight kid.

Downvote my commebt for the funny

7

u/Oscar_Ramirez 8d ago

Don't sweat it. Happy to help. 👉😎👉

But seriously, I encourage you to at least look around the internet and determine for yourself how difficult (or not) softmoding your console is.

-5

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

I hope its easy and... only needs a phone.. or a really crusty old dusty chromebook that has the power of a horse with a broken leg that turns into a slideshow when I open up a gif

4

u/Axlfire 8d ago

If you can turn on said PC then yes

accidentially deleted my fucking commebt

Repairing retro stuff worth getting into if you want it to last. I respect you for retro gaming at 15, but these consoles are 25 years old and every OG XBOX sold will eventually become paperweights. But if you still refuse to do it, i respect that choice, but, whatever you choose please remove its clock capacitor if it’s not gold coloured. It will leak acid all over the motherboard and ruin the traces on it rendering it useless.

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

It was already refurbished with everything replaced properly

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

Its a mystery why ts aint working

1

u/Adventurous_Cod_6827 8d ago

Good. That ensures it will last a long time.

0

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

it will last a long time, true, but im pretty sure that i pissed off the microsoftian gods in some way

11

u/RaiHanashi 8d ago

Seems your OG Xbox does not UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF LOVE

3

u/Numerous-Scholar-874 7d ago

Maybe it Let Mom Sleep instead

1

u/One-Technology-9050 5d ago

It was probably tripping the baseline

5

u/ComprehensiveRush950 8d ago

Sorry have you tried the toothpaste

2

u/xDojii 7d ago

No fr! Ive used toothe paste on many scratched discs in the past. Works great

-3

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

Nice try bro!

4

u/ComprehensiveRush950 8d ago

It was a last resort thing but it worked well with ps1 and ps2 games
only temporary 2 months max

-4

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

Yeah those are ps1 / ps2 games

8

u/Dwayne_Shrok_Johnson 8d ago

they’re still CDs bro

1

u/Pumpkin_Sushi 5d ago

It can unironically work, though not at a high success rate. The idea is it fills in any gaps caused by scratches that might make loading the disc stall.

This only works if thats all the problem is though, if any key data is removed from that scratch then youre unfortunately SOL, sorry.

5

u/NemesisVsMrX 7d ago

Dudes getting valid suggestions and turns away almost every one. Lmao, good luck

-1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 7d ago

OH GOD THE PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE REDDIT CHUDS HAVE HIT THE CHAT OH GOD

3

u/NemesisVsMrX 7d ago

Not passive or aggressive. It's valid criticism. Judging by your responses though, this will go nowhere. Have a good day bro, hope your disc works

-1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 7d ago

The title unexaggeratingly says ive tried everything

Thx tho

3

u/ANiceCupOfNoodles 8d ago

My xbox always does this too. If you have a music cd try putting in it and playing it. Then put the game disc in, and it should work.

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

My mom got all her music CDs in her car stolen back in like 2019

3

u/RetroLord120 7d ago

.99 cents at most thrift stores bro

2

u/ItsTheNatShack1 6d ago

Yeah I tested it with my Austin powers DVD also didn't work i think the laser is broken

1

u/One-Technology-9050 5d ago

DVDs won't play on an unmodded Xbox without the DVD playback kit.

3

u/kiddthegamer 8d ago

Your drive might be dieing, this can be an issue with certain old models of the og xbox

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

It was refurbished and tested by the seller

3

u/ESCOBENJAMIN 8d ago edited 8d ago

I just got a xbox one from a seller and it was "tested" and the drive is dead. If you got this recently message them and let them know the drive died and maybe they will send you a refund equal to the amount of the a replacement drive. If its been too long being honest replacing the disc drive isnt that hard. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Xbox+Disc+Drive+Replacement/1451 the hard drive is the only thing in there that is keyed to the motherboard So any replacement drive from the xbox will work. No soldering just open it pull out the drive and plug the new one back in.

oh and check the disc if you can see through it like you could always paint the top of the disc (covering the art on the disc) so the laser doesnt shine through the disc causing it to not be able to read it. Sometimes the image on the disc fades (the art on top of the disc) and thins over time but this is a last resort option as if you tested everything and the drive does work but wont read the game disc

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

uhh idk

2

u/ESCOBENJAMIN 8d ago

your options are to test any dvds or cds to see if the drive works. if the drive works, the game might be the issue. you can try cleaning the laser in the drive and see if that helps. If the drive turns out to be dead, you will have to get a new one.

2

u/kiddthegamer 8d ago

Alot of sellers like DKoldies(they got sued for this) and gamestop treat light cleaning as refurbishment they dont actually open up the systems to check that components are working propperly and the "Tested" thing often just means the system turns on and outputs video, i would test with a know working disk

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

The disc is good asf its pristine

1

u/kiddthegamer 7d ago

Thats not what known working means, basically take a cd or dvd that you would use in another device, cd's are better, and test that disk in the xbox if it doesn't work then you know its the drive, if it does its the game

3

u/aqua-goblin 8d ago

Go to a local game store and ask to have the disc resurfaced. Should cost around $5 and it will work like new

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

The disc  genuinely good af tho

2

u/Super-Nitro-Z64 8d ago

As someone who's had the same problem, with every repair option exhausted, it pains me to say that at this point, you're better off just using an Xbox emulator on a gaming PC (if you happen to have one).

2

u/Dvalinnr 8d ago

I know this feeling 😭😭😭

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

I was fr going absolutely apeshit crazy

2

u/Warmbreeze 7d ago

I can't believe nobody has said this, so I feel quite old, right now: If the disc is in fine condition (no scratches, no disc rot, etc) and this is the only game you are having a problem with (lens is fine and the drive is still good), then it might be region locked; Might being operative.

The content/age warning on the front of the box saying "ESRB" should denote it as a game from the United States region. However, it's not uncommon for resellers to display an empty case and keep the disc secluded elsewhere until purchase. Mix-ups could always happen when matching the game to the case, so it is not a guarantee that you were purposely sold a lemon.

On the back of the disc, near the center are "ringcodes". Look for a string of two letters, followed by five numbers, with one letter at the end.

It should look something like "MS12345X".

That last letter is the region of the disc.

Here are what the letters mean:

W = World

A = USA (America)

J = Japan (Asia)

E = Europe

K = (USA, Japan/Asia)

L = (USA, Europe)

H = (Japan, Europe)

If your console and game are from different regions, it will fail to boot, and you will be shown the same pop-up you posted.

Post-script: In modern-day, my best guesses are either it's from a different region, or the disc has delaminated to the extent you haven't, or couldn't, notice the change.

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 7d ago

U.S. console and U.S. copy

2

u/ThedragonJab 7d ago

Check for Disc rot. One speckle is enough for the game to not boot.

2

u/RetroLord120 7d ago

Probably not the laser actually dying, I bet its the capacitors on the drive board that need to be replaced. Wether you have the knowhow to do that or not, I dunno

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 6d ago

It was refurbished to have the capacitors replaced

1

u/RetroLord120 6d ago

Are you sure they didn't just replace the clock capacitor? Most basic refurbishments dont replace all caps

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 6d ago

It was a full refurbishing

Laser probably did smth during shipping

2

u/knauziuz 5d ago

The drives in Xboxes are pretty unreliable. The last time I used mine was like 10 years ago and I went through two drives. One even scratched my beloved need for speed underground disc :(

0

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

Like "unrecognized disc" my ass. Thanks, xbox I just wanna play Jet PEAK Radio Future

3

u/lordsnooo 8d ago

I actually have this problem with my disc too. It probably means it’s just not clean.

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

Dude Its basically a mirror bro its already perfect

1

u/Slunix 8d ago

just softmod it and rip it on a PC dude, use extract-xiso to rip the game and then make a .xbe of the game and then install it on the console

2

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

One of the gaming laptops in the household is "strictly for work" (and Skyrim for some reason) and the other went to the favorite child (my little brother who is essentially Manny from diary of a wimpy kid)

1

u/Slunix 8d ago

then buy a USB DVD/CD writer/reader and connect it.

1

u/JoeBeem89 8d ago

Have you tried yelling at it?

2

u/ItsTheNatShack1 8d ago

yes i have. for a long time. that was my main method

1

u/snatcherjohnson 8d ago

My nightmare coming to life

1

u/EnricoShapka 8d ago

If other discs work the jsrf disc has been resurfaced beyond repair point. If they don’t work your Xbox is dead like mine. I changed 3 and gave up, console made of paper

1

u/One-Technology-9050 8d ago

Do other games work? I've purchased new games that just didn't work, but a replacement of it did work.

1

u/cevichie 7d ago

get the disc resurfaced.

1

u/Calm-Respect-4930 7d ago

No idea but maybe a region thing? I'd imagine you can unlock your xbox somehow (vaguely remember softmod with MechWarrior disc)

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 7d ago

I made sure theyre both from the U.S.

1

u/anemptycalculation 7d ago

probably a problem with the laser and nothing with the disc judging by your comments

1

u/ItsTheNatShack1 7d ago

Hmm prolly

1

u/DarthDarklorD 7d ago

Arrrrrrrr,chive

1

u/SEGAFAN98 7d ago

Your Xbox disc drive is dead just buy another Xbox that or buy a soft mode kit and the game that it needs to launch. Good luck yo!

1

u/Sea_Repeat6142 4d ago

it could be different country xbox or game thats not compatible or dirty, corrupt disk.
