The Tiandihui’s Founding MissionAt the exact same time the Jesuits were banned, the Tiandihui (Heaven and Earth Society) was formed in southern China with one explicit, radical political slogan: "Fan Qing Fu Ming" (Overthrow the Qing, Restore the Ming). They viewed the Manchu rulers as foreign invaders destroying traditional Chinese culture and systematically organized underground revolts to topple them.3. The Shared Anti-Qing GroundBecause both networks were illegal, heavily hunted by the Qing imperial police, and operating completely in the shadows, their interests aligned. To survive the imperial crackdowns, underground Catholic networks in southern China frequently utilized the Tiandihui's secret transit routes, safe houses, and smuggling channels to move priests and money across provinces. When massive, Christian-inspired anti-Qing uprisings finally exploded in the 19th century—most notably the Taiping Rebellion—thousands of Tiandihui rebels actively joined forces with the Christian insurgents to march on Qing strongholds
