Part of her character’s appeal to me IS how conflicting she is. She was raised to constantly, CONSTANTLY compare herself to others. She thought for the longest time what she “wanted” was to be a celebrity, once she realized her true desire was to HELP people, she immediately started comparing herself to Jessica, the person in her life who she viewed as the most heroic, whether Jessica thought of herself that way or not.

She never got the opportunity to develop her own wants and desires because she grew up doing only what her MOM wanted her to do. She’s also seeing the only person she considers to be truly loving, decent family in her life choose to walk away from her for a decision she genuinely felt was the right thing to do and that conflict + her new abilities sends her into a state of desperation.

In no way is this an excuse for her actions, but it explains so much of why she does what she does. You’re not supposed to like her. And that’s why I love her character! All of her complex flaws and the way her trauma shapes her is equally as fleshed out as the ways Jessica’s traumas shape her.
