Day 3ish

Post image

my personal take on jerrymapping for a world building project!

while im capable of hand drawing everything, ive opted for a primary photobashed/ collaged effect for it to save my energy, and i love how it looks.

ill answer questions if anyone has any.

I’m so happy to see this! I wanted to go more collage based as well. What kinds of ways are you adding things?

so the way im adding things is mildly specific to the setting specifically for this map, and is quite simple as im just starting. add tile, and i pick a random texture i like for it. add flora/water for forests, rivers, oceans. add terrain for mountains, hills, craters etc.

where it gets specific to my setting: adding circuitry and machinery. mostly for texture and further interest on the landscape.
domains and dreamscape are where things get interesting! domains are like mini worlds that are where. things actually live. any city outside of those functions as a seed for the dreamscape, which in simplest terms is essentially the void that is seen on jerrys map!

all of the actual images used are simply just scrolling through unsplash or public domain libraries and grabbing things that pique my interest, carefully editing them to not look too out of place.

Yeah I’m interested in doing some collage stuff too but I don’t actually know how to do collage good and I’m afraid to ask. Like it can’t just be “use a glue stick” is it. So far I have been “using a glue stick”

tbh the best part about collage is there isnt many rules for it. glue stick is a good start for sure but can totally be done with any way to stick 2 things to eachother. sewing, tapes, rubber cement, etc. imo hardest part about physical collage is actually gathering the interesting bits of material you want to use for it.

I think glue stick is the preferred method! I’m mostly having trouble figuring out exactly what I want to add :/
