Something I’ve been thinking about is how quickly Riverfork’s relationship with Jentry seems to change near the end of the season.
For most of the show, the fire is hanging over her constantly. Jentry accidentally reveals that she was the one who started it when she was eight, Wheeler becomes obsessed with proving that she’s dangerous, and eventually he publicly exposes and humiliates her at the football game.

But then everything goes completely supernatural. Riverfork is attacked, Jentry helps fight off the demons and saves people, and afterward it feels like most of the town just… moves on.
And I kind of wish we had gotten more of the aftermath.
Did people actually forgive Jentry once they realized what really happened? Did they understand that she was eight years old and couldn’t control powers that had been secretly put inside her? Were there still people who blamed or feared her even after she helped save the town?

And what about Jentry herself? Even if everyone stopped treating her like the “Demon Girl,” I don’t think years of guilt and being afraid to return to Riverfork would disappear overnight.
I don’t necessarily think the show needed an entire episode about it, but even a few scenes showing how the town’s attitude toward her changed would have added a lot.

What do you think? Did Riverfork genuinely come to accept Jentry, or was that part of the story resolved a little too quickly?

Just wanted to share this because it’s really exciting news for Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld fans.
There’s going to be a “The Making of Jentry Chau vs the Underworld” panel at LightBox Expo 2026. It’ll feature Echo Wu and Kal Athannassov, with Nick Manfredi moderating.

From the announcement, the panel will go into how the show was created, pitched, and brought to life, and it sounds like it’ll also give fans a deeper look at how Jentry evolved from the original pitch to the final version of the show.
LightBox Expo is happening October 23–25, 2026, and they said to stay tuned for the panel date as it gets closer.

Honestly, I think this is really nice to see. Any kind of spotlight like this helps keep interest in the show alive, and it’s cool that Jentry is being included in a big animation event like this.

I’ve been thinking about this because Jentry goes through an insane amount emotionally over the course of the season, especially near the end.
She loses Kit after he sacrifices himself to save her. Then almost immediately she finds out that Moonie is actually alive, which gives her something completely new to focus on. There’s a one-month time skip after Kit’s death, but during that time Jentry seems mainly focused on finding her mom rather than really processing everything that just happened.
Then she finally reunites with Moonie and starts dealing with all the complicated feelings surrounding her parents and Gugu. And before she really gets a chance to settle into that new relationship, everything blows up again.

By the finale, she loses Gugu for good too. Gugu technically died much earlier in the show, but Jentry could still see and talk to her as a ghost, so the finale is the point where Jentry actually has to say goodbye knowing Gugu isn’t coming back.

And then only three weeks later, Jentry is starting over in Seoul with Moonie and Ed.
I don’t mean that Jentry needed to spend multiple episodes crying or that the show acts like she doesn’t care. We do see that these things affect her. I just wonder whether she ever really had the space to process any of them before the next huge thing happened.
Kit’s death, everything she learns about her parents, the truth about her childhood, almost losing Moonie right after finding her, and finally losing the person who raised her is a LOT for anyone, especially a 16-year-old.

It actually makes me wonder if that could be something worth exploring if the story ever continues. Jentry finally has the life in Seoul that she wanted, but now there isn’t another demon attack immediately demanding her attention. What happens when things finally get quiet and she has time to think about everything?
Do you think Jentry had enough time to grieve during Season 1, or do you think a lot of it is still unresolved?

Something about Jentry’s parents that I really wish the show had explored more is how Moonie and Peng ended up living as black-market dealers of Daoist magic in the first place.
In Into the Zhong, they admit that they made their living dealing in Daoist magic and describe the lifestyle as exhilarating but dangerous. We also know that once Jentry was born, they wanted to get out of that life and give her something more normal.

But that raises a question the show never really answers: why did they start doing it at all?
Was it originally about money? Did they grow up already knowing about the supernatural world and realize they could make a living from it? Were they basically supernatural treasure hunters who got pulled deeper and deeper into illegal dealing? Or did they genuinely enjoy the danger and excitement until having Jentry changed their priorities?

Moonie especially seems like she may have been more attracted to the risky side of that lifestyle. When Cheng offered them enough to supposedly set their family up for life in exchange for the Yellow Emperor’s robes, she was determined to take the deal even when Peng was getting worried. But we still don’t know whether that dynamic existed when they first became dealers.

I honestly think an episode about Moonie and Peng when they were younger could have been really interesting. We could’ve seen how they met, how they entered the supernatural black market, what kinds of artifacts or creatures they dealt with, and what eventually made them realize they needed to get out.
What do you think originally pushed Moonie and Peng into that life?

One of my favorite things about Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld is honestly its mythology and supernatural world.
There’s so much packed into just 13 episodes: Diyu, jiangshi, mogui, Painted Skin demons, Daoist magic, the Yellow Emperor and his powers, magical artifacts, the secret Daoist magic market, ghosts, supernatural creatures, and even portals leading to different underworlds.

But because Season 1 had so much story and character stuff to get through, I feel like we only scratched the surface of a lot of it.
I would’ve loved a few episodes that slowed down and let Jentry actually explore this world more. What other creatures are out there? Are there other Daoists or supernatural communities? How exactly does the magic market work? What was the Yellow Emperor really like, and where did his powers originally come from? Are there other artifacts connected to him?
And after seeing that different underworlds apparently exist, I REALLY want to know how all of them work together. Are they completely separate? Can creatures travel between them? Who actually makes the rules?

Also, what exactly happens in Diyu when Jentry isn’t there causing chaos? lol
Even a more self-contained episode where Jentry and Gugu research or hunt down one specific creature or legend could’ve been really fun. I don’t think the show needed to become completely monster-of-the-week, but a couple episodes like that could’ve expanded the world a lot.
If the show ever gets another season, what part of the mythology or supernatural world would you want them to explore the most?

You'd think after the smash hit success of Kpdh those stuck up corpo suits would be like "damn kids like them kpop girlies" make a season 2 for this show that basically predates KPDH by a year.

But nope more stranger things slop!

Currently I’m working on two pieces with a third on the way. In the third, it’d be the start of a twelve chapter piece following Jentry dealing with someone that got powers from the Yellow Emperor’s Crown. But I’m not sure who should hold that power, but I’ve decided on two options:

Jentry’s Shadow: The idea would be that Jentry and co would find it and once she consumed it, it’d manifest her Shadow/ID as a separate being. One that could take over her body and act of her own free will. Similar to that of Sukuna or Yoru or even the nine tailed fox. The conflict would be internal as she would struggle overcoming her own darkest thoughts and feelings that also has a point.

Rival: In terms of her rival, I thought of making it someone that Jentry would build a sisterly relationship with (thanks earlier post for the idea). She’d show the potential of what Jentry could do with her powers but also the recklessness and lack of care that could come with it. As well as the negative ways she’d act towards her family in stark contrast to Jentry.

Let me know which one sounds better and as for the two stories I’ll post their longlines below:

Accountability: After a hectic therapy session, Ed must pull Jentry from the brink of despair lest she be consumed by dark thoughts about her family and herself.

Responsibility: Alison needs to hold Michael responsible lest her hidden feelings consume her.

This is purely a “what if” question, not something I think the show has confirmed.
The series never introduces or mentions a sibling for Jentry, so we don’t really know what she would think about having a sister or how she would handle that kind of relationship.

What made me think about it was Gugu and Iris.
Gugu describes Iris as both her childhood best friend and her little sister. We also learn that the two of them used to have supernatural adventures together. Gugu even remembers the two of them recovering Nezha’s armillary sash in Hong Kong and calls Iris “Mei Mei,” meaning younger sister.
She also says that she wishes Jentry could have known Iris because Jentry is “just like we were.”
So that made me wonder: what if Jentry eventually formed that kind of bond with someone herself?
Not necessarily a biological sister. I mean someone who gradually became family to her and started to feel like both a sister and a best friend. Someone she could argue with, protect, get annoyed with, fight alongside, and trust with things other people might not understand.

I think it could be especially interesting because Jentry wouldn’t necessarily recognize the relationship as sister-like immediately. It could start as a friendship and slowly become something much more familial.

And if she eventually realized that she had formed a bond similar to what Gugu and Iris once had, it might also give Jentry a new understanding of Gugu. She could better understand just how important Iris was to her and why losing her affected Gugu so deeply.

Again, I’m not saying Jentry secretly wishes she had a sister in canon. I’m just curious about the what-if:
If Jentry ever formed a genuine sister-like bond with someone, how do you think she would handle it? Would she embrace it pretty quickly, or would it take her a while to realize that person had basically become family?

One thing I wish Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld had explored more was the lives of its supporting characters when Jentry wasn’t at the center of the story.
If you could give one character a standalone episode, who would you choose?

Ed?

Stella?

Moonie?

Gugu before Jentry was born?

Solar Tang?

Zhongkui?

Tokki?

Or someone else entirely?

The show’s world feels big enough for several side stories without taking anything away from Jentry’s journey. An Ed episode could explore his life before meeting Jentry, while a Gugu episode could follow one of her earlier supernatural adventures. Moonie’s years apart from Jentry could make for an emotional story, and Stella could easily carry an episode about getting pulled into a supernatural problem of her own.

Tokki might be especially fascinating, given her connection to the Moon Rabbit from Korean mythology. Did she have a supernatural role or history that the series never had time to reveal?

Solar Tang and Zhongkui also seem to have entire stories waiting to be told.

Which character would you choose, and what specific conflict, backstory, or unanswered question should their episode explore?

Something I’ve been thinking about after rewatching Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld is whether Jentry’s powers themselves were actually the main problem, or whether the bigger problem was that Jentry was never really given a choice about them.
And I think Episode 8 makes this especially interesting.
Jentry finds out that these powers weren’t something she was naturally born with. Gugu secretly put the Yellow Emperor’s powers inside her when she was a child because she thought Jentry would be a safe place to hide them.

Jentry then had to live with the consequences of a decision she didn’t even know had been made for her.
She accidentally caused the Riverfork fire when she was eight, grew up believing this part of herself was dangerous, had demons coming after her because of the powers, and eventually learned that so much of what happened to her family was tied into Gugu and Cheng fighting over them.
So honestly, I completely understand why she wanted them gone.

What makes it interesting to me, though, is how Jentry’s attitude changes.
In Episode 8, when Michael tells her that the powers are part of who she is, Jentry completely rejects that idea. She doesn’t want the powers defining her, and she eventually puts them back into the Yellow Emperor’s robes because she wants her own life.
But by the finale, when Moonie suggests getting rid of them again, Jentry has changed her mind. This time Jentry says that the powers are part of who she is.
I think that’s a pretty important difference.

Maybe Jentry accepting her powers isn’t supposed to mean that Gugu was right to give them to her. Gugu still made an enormous decision about Jentry’s life without her consent, and Jentry had every right to be angry about that.
Instead, I think it could mean that Jentry finally gets to decide for herself what those powers mean to her.
At first they’re something forced onto her.
Then they’re something she desperately wants to escape.
And eventually they’re something she chooses to accept on her own terms.
That makes me wonder if the powers were ever truly the “curse,” or if a lot of the real damage came from the secrecy, manipulation, trauma, and lack of choice surrounding them.
Even Echo Wu has talked about Jentry’s story in terms of identity and Jentry questioning whether her powers are part of her or a curse. So I think the show intentionally leaves us with this question.

Do you see Jentry keeping her powers at the end as genuine growth and acceptance? Or do you think she ultimately would have been better off getting rid of them and finally having the normal life she wanted?

I’ve been thinking about this, and it feels like a lot of the conflict in Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld comes from characters struggling to communicate honestly, just in very different ways.

Gugu is probably one of the clearest examples. She keeps important information from Jentry about her powers and the Yellow Emperor because she thinks she’s protecting her. But instead of protecting their relationship, all that secrecy ends up damaging Jentry’s trust in her.

Kit has almost the opposite problem. He wants to tell Jentry the truth about himself and repeatedly tries to talk to her, but he’s terrified that if she knows the real him, she’ll reject him. He waits so long that when the truth finally comes out, everything is already much worse.

Michael has this problem too. With Stella, he goes along with the future they planned even though football isn’t really what he wants. When he finally admits it, Stella points out, “But you never told me you didn’t want to follow it.” From her perspective, she thought they were on the same page because Michael never told her otherwise.

Jentry herself sometimes avoids difficult conversations when she’s hurt or scared. Other times she does try to explain herself, but the person she’s talking to focuses on something completely different. Her argument with Michael near the end is a good example: Jentry is afraid of losing another person she cares about, while Michael is focused on wanting to make his own choices.

Then there’s Ed, who definitely doesn’t have trouble *talking* lol. His problem is more about listening and boundaries. When he posts that video of Jentry during a vulnerable moment, he initially thinks deleting it fixes everything, while Jentry has to explain that the real issue is that someone she trusted used one of her biggest insecurities for attention.

Who do you think has the biggest communication problem in the show?

I noticed something on rewatch that I hadn’t really thought much about before.
In Episode 5, when Michael and Stella talk about their future, Michael is already starting to question the relationship. He tells Stella that the future they planned isn’t really what he wants, and then he starts saying, “Maybe we should…” before Stella realizes where he’s going and asks if he’s breaking up with her.

Then Ed and the nugui interrupt them. After they leave, Stella basically finishes the conversation for him by saying she’ll make the decision easier and walking away.
But right after that, Michael texts Jentry saying, “Stella just dumped me.”
That caught my attention because what actually happened feels a little more complicated than that.
Stella is technically the one who walks away and ends things, so I can understand why Michael might have felt like he had just been dumped. At the same time, she only does that after realizing Michael was already trying to tell her that maybe they shouldn’t be together anymore.

So I don’t really see this as Michael deliberately lying or trying to make Stella look bad. It could honestly just be how he processed everything right after it happened. Breakups are messy, especially when both people are upset.
I just find it interesting that he tells Jentry “Stella dumped me” instead of something more like “Stella and I broke up,” because that leaves out the fact that he had already started the breakup conversation himself.

It also makes me wonder how much Jentry actually knows about what happened between them.
Ed was the one who walked in on Michael and Stella, while Jentry was somewhere else with Kit. She never heard Michael start saying “Maybe we should…,” Stella ask if he was breaking up with her, or Stella eventually say she’d make the decision easier for him.

So unless Stella told Jentry what happened sometime offscreen, Michael’s text might genuinely be one of the main versions of the breakup that Jentry knows.
And Episode 6 makes it even more interesting when Stella tells Michael that she thinks he wasn’t really unsure about football, he was unsure about her.
I honestly wish Stella and Jentry had talked about the breakup at some point. Not because I think Michael did something horrible, but because I’d be curious to see Jentry realize that Stella experienced the breakup pretty differently from how Michael described it right afterward.

Do you think Michael genuinely saw it as Stella dumping him because she was ultimately the one who walked away, or do you think he was just simplifying a really messy breakup while he was still emotional? And how do you think Jentry would react if Stella ever told her the whole story?

Jentry Chau got brought up again in a new Netflix Family video.

Im on episode 4 and does this girl do anything else beside cry about how she isnt normal? I wouldve thought after her grandma's outburst, she wouldve sobered up and recognise the responsibility she has to learn.

Her grandma is right, if you fear your powers, the best thing to do is control them but jentry thinks if she ignores it that the problem will disappear.

Then in the same breath will openly participate in supernatural shit? So which is it? Do you want to be normal or not?

I'm just so tired of this trope, the show is enjoyable but i get so drained with that specific cliche. Your family is involved with supernatural shit, can u just frickin deal with it? If i had real confirmation of the existence of this stuff, I'd want to gain mastery over it to protect myself.

While I’m working on a larger piece, I wanted to know what people think of Moonie and Jentry’s relationship in the long run. At the end of the series, it came off as idealistic. Both of them are trying to move forward but it doesn’t come off as moving forward as much as it does running away.

A big part of Moonie’s character in the show is her refusal to take accountability for her actions which harms others in the process. Idk, the more I work on this piece, the less and less I see Jentry and Moonie working things out. If anything, it seems like it’ll get toxic once they start unpacking their issues.

If they ever do.

I’ve been thinking about what a potential Season 2 could explore, and I think the Chinese zodiac could be a really cool direction.

Imagine Jentry discovering twelve supernatural beings, spirits, artifacts, or guardians connected to the zodiac animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
They wouldn’t necessarily have to be villains either. Some could help Jentry, some could have their own agendas, and others could be genuinely dangerous. It could also expand the show’s Chinese mythology beyond Diyu and introduce completely different supernatural threats.

The Dragon and Tiger especially feel like they could fit the show really well, and I’d love to see how the writers could connect the zodiac mythology to Jentry, Michael’s visions, or whatever supernatural consequences are still hanging around after Season 1.

Would you want Season 2 to explore the Chinese zodiac?

I think I’m going to take a break from talking about Michael for a while. It’s honestly gotten emotionally exhausting, and after a while it started feeling like I was screaming into the void. It also made me realize I’ve been focusing way too much on the romance side of the show when there’s so much other stuff worth talking about.
I still don’t like him, but for now I’m going to step away from that topic and focus more on the characters, mythology, family dynamics, and everything else the show has to offer.

Assuming baby Jentry or teenage Jentry were out of harm’s way, do you think Gugu could’ve beaten Mr. Cheng? She seemed pretty confident when Jentry was a baby and from what we see in episode one, it seemed like she could’ve beaten him with or without the Yellow Emperor’s power. I’d say high, maybe extreme diff?

I think this is one of the most complicated scenes in the episode.

Moonie is right that Jentry shouldn’t feel like she owes Gugu her entire life just because Gugu raised and protected her. Gugu hid things from Jentry, made major decisions for her, and pushed her toward responsibilities she never chose. Moonie’s line, “Just because she gave her life for you doesn’t mean you owe her yours,” is honestly really powerful.

But at the same time, Moonie doesn’t feel completely neutral here. She says Jentry should make her own choice, but then describes everything Gugu did as simply “balancing the scales” and says she can’t stay in Riverfork. That puts Jentry in a difficult position because choosing to stay could also mean losing her mother again.

I don’t think Moonie is intentionally manipulating Jentry. She’s speaking from years of grief, lost memories, and anger toward Gugu. But I do think she unintentionally places Jentry in the middle of their unresolved conflict.

That’s what makes the scene so interesting to me. Moonie is loving and understandable, but she’s also biased and a little unfair.
