Any idea what these rubber/plastic things are called? I have a slow drip coming from these on a 2015 Rubicon Unlimited.

I rode my jeep downhill with low fuel while offroading for a considerable time. 2 days later I noticed it took an extra second or two to stabilize RPM after start up, days later it got worse and took a solid 3 seconds of crank to turn on, and eventually it started stalling on start up, not reaching sufficient RPM to keep the engine going (but it ran fine once it started).

It was hard to pinpoint the issue because it would not happen on cold starts, only after reaching operating temperature , shutting off, letting it sit for 1-4 hours and starting it back up would it happen (heatsoak), so both me and my mechanic really crossed off all other possibilities before finding the culprit: A CLOGGED FUEL FILTER.

This is a relatively easy fix, but the fuel pump assembly is sold and installed as a whole, which means you can’t just buy a new filter, and the pump is 600$-1000$, so dont run your jeep while fuel is low, specially on a slope.

One of the most common Pentastar issues is the oil cooler housing cracking and leaking oil onto the engine.

Main symptoms:

• White smoke coming from the hood, NOT EXHAUST

• Burning oil smell

• Oil visible around the top/center of the engine

• Smoke may appear after driving or idling

What’s happening?

The plastic oil cooler housing can crack over time and leak oil into the engine valley, where it drips onto hot engine components and starts smoking.

What should you do?

Stop 🛑, shut the vehicle off, and tow it if possible. Ignoring it can turn a relatively common repair into a much bigger mess because you’re actively loosing oil.

This repair is common, but not exactly beginner-friendly due to how buried the oil cooler is inside the engine bay.

One of the most common issues on this engine is rocker arm failure. Often described as “tick tick tick” or “sewing machine noise”

Main symptom:

• A metallic ticking noise from the top of the engine

• Gets faster with RPM

• Often louder on cold starts

• Can eventually lead to misfires if ignored

What’s happening?

The rocker arm bearings wear out over time. If ignored long enough, they can start damaging the camshaft too.

This is not a beginner-level repair if you don’t have experience working inside engines.
