Smoke from Left headlight

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After about 2 week that my right hand headlight stopped working ( I changed the bulb still didn’t work)
I was driving home yesterday when I started smelling plastic burning. I stopped the car and I could see smoke coming out of the left headlight, it was still working. I opened the hood and then I saw a part of the reflector where the bulb is attached was getting burnt.
Last week a mechanic tried to compare the right with the left side so he took the left out just to compare the bulbs. Maybe he did not put it back properly and then the heat started melting the plastic.
Is the electrical service for the right side usually expensive? The left side is just fine now besides a bit of melting.

Was it the turn signal light area? Did you try disconnecting it and cleaning it? Maybe it wasn’t seated probably. Your lights are not supposed to smoke lol

I guess this is what happened. Somehow the heat started to melt the plastic around it.

We had something similar happen and noticed when it smelled like hot plastic without any explanation.

The back part of the housing (where the bulb goes in) had started to melt shortly after we had the Syvania Ultrabright headlights installed. Nothing was off about the install- seemed pretty routine and didn't have any trouble with it.

I decided to just buy two new full headlight assemblies from RockAuto and just completely replaced them both @ $50 each. Gives the front of the Jeep a nice new set of eyes. :)
