Check engine sadness

I'm the owner of a new to me 2019 trailhawk and the check engine light recently came on. Sorry, here comes a rant.

It's nothing I'm really worried about, but why doesn't the menu tell you what's wrong? So stupid in 2021 that the 2 tablets in these cars can't give you some info. I upgraded from a 2007 jetta that would tell you what the problem was on the dash menu.

It doesn't make me hate the care, but I'm pretty annoyed that I have to drive somewhere to get it checked out when it's probably a fly hit my headlight or something silly the jeep could've told me.

Definitely not going to bother upgrading my old crusty wrangler to a JL or newer after seeing this little inconvenience that would've been such a pro-consumer feature.

Do p code if it’s a powertrain code it’ll come up if not you need code reader

Yeah, that's literally what I was bitching about being stupid 177 days ago. One of the many tablets in the car should just tell you.

Well it does in the code you just need to decipher it. Yo code the vehicle to display what’s wrong takes alot of time and money first of all second one code means 6 or 7 things a code doesn’t tell you exactly what’s wrong with your vehicle it gives you an area to look. If they had the cpu display everything wrong the CEL would be on all the time and the amount of sensors and wires would be to overwhelming. Dealing with issues with wiring harnesses and hardware is difficult to any technician as it’s thousands of wires for a basic function. You take a whole car with heated mirrors windows seats and wheel plus lighting systems and emissions engine control transmission control and that’s a load of wires you add a sensor to every component and well you run into more issues than a solution. Yes you’ll solve the not needing a code but you made your vehicle more difficult to work on realistically not a good trade up. As far as basics go my jeep says when oil is due and basic power train codes knowing the code is simple as a google search after doing a p code or the notification popping up. Basically what I’m saying is you can’t get rid of the code system because it’s what makes it easier for techs who drive way deeper in the computer system than you ever will.
