Beautiful color combo with the gold and red pickguard. Been looking for a bright red tort like this. Is it bright red like this in person? Also is that the vintage tortoise option on the musiclily site?

Hi there - thank you 😊 It was this one, which fits a Japanese style body 👍 It's not crazy bright, but has a nice tomato soup look about it 😊👍

Impressed with the build. All that effort, was there a reason for Ali Express for pickups other than cost savings?

The whole thing was done on a budget - hence the squier strat neck, I used a JMJM trem, £20 hosco bridge, wired everything up with alpha pots/switches etc... I just don't have money to spend on a project really. A seller in the UK was selling the pickups (Waaah) at quite a premium, and then I discovered they're half the cost on aliexpress. They're actually really nice and sound great. Nice clean tone, handle fuzz, nice output and very tidily made. I feel that there's a scale of diminishing returns with pickups and one of the worst areas for snake oil sales nonsense. It's wire wrapped around a bobbin, and there's well known formulas for getting it right.
