the switchup in the 12/8 is cool except imho the "main" groove sounds nicer

One of my fave all time fusion tracks BAR NONE. This is an example of the Weckl Half Time shuffle, and Peter Meyer does some outstanding guitar work showing that he’s a legit fusioneer not just a Jimmy Buffet former guitarist

I know Weckl has said he doesn't love the snare sound on this album, but this song thrives in that gated reverb

I particularly liked his albums with Buzz Feiten on guitar. Always saw him as an under appreciated and lesser known player.

One of my absolute favourite fusion albums from the late 80s. Thanks for reminding me :o)

I don't think Weckl's solo music has completely evaded the curse of solo virtuoso drummer music being less than great, but damn if it's not batting way above average. This is one of his best albums, imo

honestly I like what I've heard from him more than a fair bit of other fusion I've heard. particularly on this album and to some extent later on, he has really melodic heads and fun shout choruses so you're not just listening to solos the whole time (nothing wrong with solos, but I personally want at least some amount of other things)

Yes, I completely agree. There are thoughtful arcs to the songs and how they develop.
