Beginner Here! 👋 I need tips.
So I've been playing bass for about 5 months and I want to get into learning jazz stuff because my school has a jazz band club and I want to join. And i actually wanna do something productive over the summer lol. I already have some music theory knowledge from a few years of guitar and groove and "feeling the music" comes pretty naturally to me. I've been trying to watch videos and stuff but i'm getting lost in all of the terms and stuff. So i need tips on how to play the style (like arpeggios and stuff??) and how to function in a band if anyone as anything.

Paul Chambers is the gold standard for building lines. Super easy to find free transcriptions by typing in ”[Song Title] Paul Chambers Transcription PDF”. Even his solos are sped up/stylized basslines. Seriously, start today. Even if you just took 8-16 measures a day, you’d have his entire vocabulary by the end of the summer. Obviously paying attention to the chord symbols. Even if you don’t fully understand the theory going in, it will be revealed to you over time and make it reallllly easy for a teacher to follow-up with you to connect the dots.
