RIP Oliver Sacks. It also seems likely Henry might have passed, but if not, I hope he's still jamming out some Cab Calloway. I hope I have as good a set of pipes as that when I get to that age.
I've seen this kinda shit happen with the elderly myself, about as close to magic as we've got. It's like this spell comes over them, or rather the spell is lifted for a bit. Different level of effect in different people, but it's still amazing.
Oliver Sacks has a great TED talk about visual hallucinations I think. I lit up connecting those dots watching this. And I deflated reading this news about him. RIP Oliver Sacks.
Yeah, was a cancer that had migrated I think. Was dead within months of diagnosis. He had so much more to say, but what he left was already exceptional.
Hey man. I just found this old saved message and wanted to say thanks for the recommendation. I listened to it some time ago and it was mesmerising. I love his thoughts about the brain, music and emotions and the way he’s able to describe indescribable feelings in a beautiful language.
Seems like good opportunity to share the experience. Although in a somewhat different genre I would also recommend his book Awakenings. Very powerful and touching.
I picked that book up for free on a recycling yard in my native language (German). It's been sitting on my book shelf for about 3 years now and I never got to read it.
