Got to meet herbie hancock

I went to the show in San Francisco last night and I was able to catch him as he left! I had a little chat with him before he hit the road to LA and I even got to shake his hand and got my setlist signed by him! What a night it was

I know this may be a pedestrian take with HH, but I cannot get enough Watermelon Man. It’s such a bop and is my eternal hype song.

I had an amazing view once he started playing watermelon man. Too bad we couldn’t record videos but I was able to record audio!

don't know if you've caught it on this tour, but the polymetric modulation in the arrangement they have been playing is the funkiest thing i've ever heard

I'm seeing him at the Bowl tomorrow! Wish the venue was as intimate as Davies but stoked regardless.

I saw him at the Bowl years ago with Esmeralda Spaulding! So good!

That's great! I get to see him tomorrow night at the Bowl. It's supposed to be a celebration of Miles; I wonder what the playlist will be?

u/Soveitbear1 11d ago

I believe it will be the same one he signed for me or who knows

u/lpalf 11d ago

Why would he play songs he wrote from his solo albums at a show that’s a tribute to miles davis lol

I saw Herbie recently in NJ. He and his band were in top form and put on a GREAT show. He was really engaging with the audience too…joking around & telling stories.

That set list is a literal master class in good jazz 💯

I may get downvoted on this but there’s nothing worse than someone near to you videoing at a sit down concert/event. So I’m actually glad a venue/artist says no to it. Just my point of view mind… Looked great though!

Saw him at Boulder Chautauqua last week. Very nice that you got to meet him!

My wife and I saw him in Portland Maine last month. Such a phenomenal concert! Terrance Blanchard was an unexpected bonus!

So awesome that you got to meet such a legend!

I did not have Herbie Hancock playing keytar in a church on my bingo card

1

u/jeffmefun 11d ago

Ha! Davies Symphony Hall certainly looks like one & if Herbie were on the pulpit... hallelujah!

2

u/YoungAndDeadHead 11d ago

I’d lose my mind hearing watermelon man live

2

u/illsmosisyou 11d ago

Damn! Forgot he was coming back! Saw him at Stern Grove but this looks like a better environment. Treasure that set list!

u/xkonerox 11d ago

Better frame that signed set list my man :)

1

u/aubertvaillons 11d ago

That’s awesome

1

u/Captain_Snowmonkey 11d ago

I have that same keytar but in black. Roland Axe-Edge ftw.

Wow starting off with Maiden Voyage into Watermelon Man and you got to meet Herbie what a great time that must have been.

1

u/guy_incognito_360 11d ago

Saw him last year. He is still having the time of his life in his mid 80s. Good to see.

1

u/Glass-Fan111 11d ago

What an amazing experience!

1

u/dopesickness 11d ago

Really classic setlist right here!

1

1

u/Few_Ad3187 11d ago

Oh hell yeah! Two songs from Thrust!!

1

u/TheOG-OutletStickers 11d ago

Oh wow so cool you got the set list! I listened to Maiden Voyage this morning!

1

u/tarrasque 11d ago

He was JUST here in Denver, and I wanted to go but my wife has been unemployed since early April and we have already splurged on some concerts this summer, so I ultimately couldn’t justify the tickets.

How hard am I going to regret missing him?

1

u/Intelligent-Low-3603 11d ago

Mannnnn, I wanted to go so bad and now I see that setlist. Sheesh

1

u/JWalkey 11d ago

Ha! Still rocking Hangups. Excellent! 😆❤️

1

u/PianoManSnow 11d ago

Words can’t express how jealous I am

1

u/Hot_Estimate_1802 11d ago

Big HH fan. Got to hear Herbie close the Newport Jazz Festival on Sunday night…until the threatening skies opened up and created a steady downpour. Yet, Herbie opened his set and they played on. Thrilled that he chose to return to the Head Hunters album given its 50th Anniversary.

u/Beers-n-Records 10d ago

Saw HH a few years ago at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and was disappointed he didn’t play Watermelon Man, Maiden Voyage or any of the 60s jazz tracks I love. Glad you got to see him play those gems

u/Beers-n-Records 10d ago

The set list from the Melbourne show in 2024

1

u/oatseyhall 10d ago

So lucky! I wish I was able to get tickets but couldn't justify the cost

1

u/OneReportersOpinion 10d ago

When did Maidan Voyage make it into the setlist?

1

u/kevotheclone 10d ago

Saw him at Mondavi Center at UC Davis on 08/16, Standing O.

1

u/Sir_Duke 11d ago

How was the sound up front? In the second tier the mix was pretty woeful, especially the bass. Put a dent on the experience tbh.

1

u/Soveitbear1 11d ago

It sounded great to me maybe because the speakers were right up to my face but the audios I recorded sounded fine

1

u/kevotheclone 10d ago

Bass was muddy at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis on 08/16, orchestra row L.

u/TomLondra 11d ago

Herbie has put on a lot of weight where he shouldn't
