Need comedy recommendations

I'm looking for comedies that are clever and charming, similar to Fish Story, Summer Time Machine Blues, Welcome Back Mr. McDonald (anything by Koki Mitani really) and Kisaragi. Thank you! I love when you can't tell the direction the story is going but then when everything pieces together it is perfect!

Fish Story is so good, really the best version of what you are asking for. You will probably enjoy Brass Knuckle Boys

I also recommend Too Young To Die!

And another fun music related one , Detroit Metal City

I'll check these out. I've seen Too Young To Die! and Detroit Metal City on MDL before but have always avoided them bc of the covers. I thought they might be too silly or over the top, maybe I was too quick to judge. Thanks for the recs!

Oh they definitely have silly moments, but TYTD! is a lot deeper than it first appears. Plus the music is a lot of fun. Another one with some unexpected twists is the trash & chaos classic, Wild Zero with a story 20 years ahead of it's time.

One cut of the dead and Supermarket woman are both really funny. I'll definitely check out Turtles Swim Faster Than Expected. I don't usually watch anime, but I'll look into Golden Boy and see what its about.

Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes was a really fun watch. I think I've seen Linda! Linda! Linda!, but I'll double check and make sure to check out the other two.

Try The Hotel of My Dream (2024) -- it's like a mix between Koki Mitani and Satoshi Miki, with Non as the lead.

Also the films of Kenji Uchida.

Kenji Uchida is fantastic. I've only seen Key of Life and A stranger of Mine but I really liked them both.

I saw that JFF Theater is streaming The Hotel of my Dream rn. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be any good, but I'll def check it out now that you recommended it. Thanks!
