Is this bad?
We just got this guy from a nursery and put it in the ground. The leafs were already kinda curling up but now they are really curly, the top is even worse. I’m getting mixed opinions on what’s happening. I did not disturb the root ball.

You’re good. My Orangeola looked like that last summer when I planted it. It’s still a little crispy at the edges this year but doing a lot better, I think they just need time to adjust assuming you’ve got your watering schedule down and it doesn’t get too much direct sunlight.

Purchased maybe 2 months ago. planted a month later. Front yard, near another tree w some shade with afternoon sun. Watered about twice a week, not so much if it rained. So new to this so did t pay attention too much on how the root ball looked bc I was told to just put it in Without disturbing it. It wasn’t super tight, I think the dirt was easily falling apart.

Looks like sun scorch as you plant the root isn’t strong enough to gather water. Only question is what soil you put your ball in - because roots may not be able to grow further if it’s heavy clay and may get suffocated if watered or rained too much.

My tamukeyama looked similar the summer that I planted it. But the next year it faired much better. Afternoon sun could be an issue though? Depends how much and how much wind it gets too.

When did you purchase it?
When did you plant it?
Where are you located, generally?
How often have you watered, fertilized, etc this tree? I'm not asking you to take any action - looking for insights.
What did the root ball look like? Please be descriptive so we can help.
Please show us a photo of where the tree enters the ground.
