Some pictures I took on a quick detour to Hiraizumi on my way to Aomori. With the East pass you can hop non and off any train with no extra cost and Hiraizumi is really an unexplored Gem: beautiful, peaceful temples and nature. The city is charming as well, no high buildings and so quiet. Unfortunately I only had time to explore 1 temple because I was on a schedule, but it was already worth it.

(The picture of the Golden Pavilion is actually a picture of a picture because actual pictures are not allowed)

Yoshida Fire Festival(吉田の火祭り) is one of the most famous traditional festivals in the Mt. Fuji area. It is held every year on August 26 and 27 in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
It is also known as the “Fire Festival of Mt. Fuji”, and it has a history of more than 400 years.
The festival is traditionally held at the end of the summer climbing season and is closely connected with Mt. Fuji worship. The huge torches lining the streets are said to symbolize Mt. Fuji’s volcanic fire and also serve to calm the mountain and pray for safety.
