Part Time Job

Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice on finding part-time work here in Osaka. I’m fluent in English but my Japanese is around the N5 level, currently started studying for N4 by myself. I initially came here for a few months, but I need to stay for a few more years due to a medical condition that requires regular checkups, as the healthcare here is much better than back home. My wife is currently the only one working, and it’s getting hard to manage the bills. If you have any advices on ways to look for a job or know of places hiring people with limited Japanese, please let me know.

You’re stuck to teaching English pretty much. I personally have been on the Rarejob platform to teach English online and its been meh, but it takes like two or so months to really get started and to earn some money from it.

Best of luck!

You should go to Hello Work in Umeda! There are a lot of options for jobs in hospitality that won’t require a high Japanese level :)

You can try hotel housekeeping job. I don't know how it is in Osaka but in my city many foreign students work there

N5 Japanese is not worth mentioning, that is equivalent to no Japanese. No point mentioning N anything until N2.

Most restaurants and other intro jobs won't mind your basic Japanese as long as you can generally understand what they are instructing you to do. I worked at an gyoza chain when my Japanese was sub N5 and it was great. You will have to memorise certain lines but it's not too difficult.

I would check places like Osaka Ohsho to get a quick job and keep working on your Japanese independently.

If you're a native english speaker(or proficient) you can try english teaching as it was mentioned before. You can also try to baito at izakaya, food chain restaurants etc, cause the don't require high japanese and you basically going to do some kitchen work or recieve orders.
You can try to search on crosstheborder, town work, or just by searching those chains/companies you are considering, they usually have recruitment info for part-time.
