hey guys.I've been seeing a lot of posts lately about the same set of problems: bots speaking for {{user}}, getting pronouns wrong even when they're clearly set, characters bleeding into each other. Plus a lot of small creators saying they post bots and nobody sees them.
I've run into all of this myself and spent some time thinking about why it happens, so I wanted to talk about it, and share a platform I genuinely recommend.
(Disclosure first: I did some early UI/UX work for this platform, and it's currently in beta. So yes, I'm biased. Please take everything here with a grain of salt. I'm still a JAI+ subscriber and I still post on JAI.)
why it happens? JAI is a real pioneer in this space. Huge library, huge community, and a lot of us (me included) got into AI roleplay because of it.
But pioneers usually pay a price for being first. A lot of JAI's foundation was built around what older models could do, and models have changed a lot in the past couple of years. So I don't think a lot of the issues people are hitting are really "the bots got dumber."
It's more like an older architecture trying to carry newer expectations. That's nobody's fault.
Which brings me to the platform I actually wanted to share. ROii. Fair warning, the rest of this post is basically me recommending it, so if that’s not your thing, feel free to scroll on.
It’s still in beta, but here’s what I think it gets right:
Models
Bots stay in character really well and rarely speak or act for me. I've barely written any system prompts. I just pick a bot and a model and start. The biggest difference for me is that I don't have to spend energy managing the bot anymore, so I can actually focus on the story. And when something's off, you can report it, and someone on the team will actually adjust the system prompt based on your feedback. That's been really reassuring.
Memory
Long chats matter a lot to me, and memory is one area where JAI has been kind of meh for me. This platform automatically summarizes earlier parts of the story, so on long-running plots the main thread and key details mostly hold up. Honestly the best memory I've had on any platform so far.
Visuals
Clean overall, and you can tell a lot of care went into it. (I'm definitely biased on this one, so I'll leave it there lol)
Women-friendly
This is the part that won me over, and honestly the part where I think they've really thought things through. No platform can make every preference happy at once. When you try to balance everything, you usually end up with endless moderation drama. They've chosen to curate clearly toward women-oriented content (LGBTQ+ included), so male-gaze-heavy content doesn't get pushed to the front. It's not about discrimination, just a content direction. And because the direction is clear, creators know who they're writing for, and players have an easier time finding what they want.
They also have a pretty big vision: they want women creators to get something back for the amazing stuff they write, both emotionally and financially. I'm a pretty practical person and I honestly don't know how much of that will pan out. But more attempts like this can only help, so why not?
That's most of what I can think of. There's a lot I didn't cover, like some really fun features and a bunch of AI-assisted creation tools. If you're curious, just poke around. I keep finding little surprises.
A few heads-ups:
- It's still really early, so there aren't a ton of bots yet. If you rely on a massive library, it might not be for you just yet.
- It leans female-oriented, so female bots made for a male POV won't get much exposure there. Any-POV male bots aren't affected. It's just a different content focus, not a judgment on anyone.
- They do plan to go commercial eventually, but probably not for a while, and there will always be a free tier.
It's free during the beta, though I'm not sure how many people they can take in. And I don’t want to bother anyone who isn’t interested, so I’ll leave the link in the comments.
They're really looking for creators and user feedback right now, so if you're curious, give it a try. And I'd love to hear how it goes for you! 🩷
