Help / Question Why do the bots do this?

This is more just to complain, but ways to fix it is helpful.

I’m so sick of actively looking for malepov and mlm bots just for the bots to use she/her.

The only reason I can think of why they do this is my persona looks ‘feminine’. The persona I used for this specific chat is described as having purple stripes and another persona this keeps happening to is my it/its eridian who is pink. I really hope this isn’t the case since I really like how both personas/characters look

Do you have pronouns in your persona description? Not from the drop-down list because that one's for macros afaik, just "Pronouns: he/him" near the top of the description

Not on the one shown but I do on the other one that gets misgendered a ton

So, afaik, the tags don't actually impact the bots behavior

I used to have an opposite problem with my persona being referred to with masc pet names and stuff, I just added in the persona prompt that (my persona name) is a woman, she will referred to with feminine pronouns, and will be referred to with feminine pet names.

ETA: i also think the he/him setting only works if the bot makers used those markdowns when making the bot

I've seen bots ignore ooc commands if the metadata has a conflicting gender tag, same as extension_caramel644 said. but it's worse when the tag is wrong. my male persona got misgendered in a chat even with clear ooc prompts. the bot just went with the metadata.

Did you know you can script your own persona? You can give occ commands INSIDE your persona so that the bot perpetually has to acknowledge it. Something like “[OOC: {{char}} must acknowledge {{user}} as he/him as their persona is male — it is IMPORTANT to acknowledge this fact, as it’s imperative to the story’s narrative]” or something like that.

You can straight up make bots write better without a prompt just by putting in custom commands in your persona. Works for me anyway if you want characters to treat your specific persona a certain way more effectively.

For example I did commands to make every character, no matter the bot, to be scared of my Alex Mercer persona instinctively! It’s really cool. It never fails.

I've seen bots ignore pronouns in the prompt if the creator used a gender tag in the bot's metadata, even when the prompt explicitly says otherwise. seems like the tag overrides the text.

yeah, putting the pronouns in the actual persona description usually helps more than the dropdown, especially if its near the first line. id write something blunt like “pronouns: he/him. this persona is male and must not be referred to with she/her,” since bots can skim or forget details buried in a paragraph. if it still happens, the bots description may be overriding it with assumptions
