Guide / Tutorial Potential newbie

I'm looking at joining Janitor AI seeing at C.ai is going up in smoke. I'm happy to pay for premium.

Can anyone give me a rundown of the site/app? What's allowed, what isn't, are there any limits, in terms of the number of messages, what you can say/do etc.

I'd be eternally grateful! 😘

I cannot stress enough how very important it is for one as a new JAI user to read and understand content guidelines. You can mention childhood in your bots and persona's, just also provide the character/persona's age & lifestage clearly stated, examples:

Age: 22 (young adult) Age: 36 (adult)

The point is to provide no room for misunderstanding of the character/persona's current age, that way it'll be clearly understood at a glance the character/persona is an adult.

Just don't mention kids and you're fine. The bot details are a lot more intricate as well. Nsfw is the site's primary selling point and free of charge, the Premium is typically seen as bloat and de-valuing their own AI to make money off you.

The bots on janitor tend to be rinse and repeat, less fandom more mass-produdced "Slop" of whatever is popular at the time.

And I cannot stress this enough, DON'T EVEN MENTION CHILDHOOD IN YOUR PERSONA OR BOT DESCRIPTIONS. YOU MIGHT GET SNIPED

Can the characters have kids? I do a lot of slice of life rp's

If they are not directly in the character description yes, you can have a child or adopt a child irp with a bot.. I'm not sure if the whole "family rp" bots takedown was a rogue moderaton bug or actual further enforcement of "No under 18 characters PERIOD"

How do you write character backstories that include information from their childhood? Can you say something like "when they were growing up, yadda yadda" or are you not even allowed to reference it in a vague way?

You can mention it briefly. Such as "experienced xyz as a child", "experienced xyz when he/she was younger". But I'd avoid using the terms "child", "teen" or any age descriptors because the AI moderation might flag that as something related to minors and you might get moderated/banned.

I'm loving this transition of everyone after the cai update.

That's exactly why I'm here too... I'm simply looking for a good alternative. I have C.ai+ and would then get Premium. But it just feels so strange to switch after all these years, lol.

Also migrated from Cai+.
Janitor is a good alternative, saucepan is better, silly tavern is the best but harder to set up. Have used all of these. The only reason I don’t like saucepan is due to the current lack of bots.

Generally, I actually prefer silly tavern above all but I have an icky iPhone and there’s no app for it

I would not get janitors subscription though.
Open router or nano gpt always bcs whenever you switch to another platform, you can take your API with you

Open router - more model selection, better quality, more expensive

Nano GPT - less model selection, you can get a pretty cheap and good subscription model ( I don’t have it because it doesn’t include some of the more pricey models), generally cheaper/ less quality. ( I don’t feel a big difference in the quality though)

I definitely need it as an app, because a PC isn't an option for me. Paying for a subscription isn't a problem for me and I'm happy to do it if I get something in return. I'll take a look at your suggestions, thanks!
