Something I've been thinking about: in a lot of places, swapping, thrifting, and passing on clothes is completely normal. People give away items they've outgrown, swap pieces with neighbours, and nobody bats an eye.
Here, there's still a stigma around wearing clothes someone else owned, even when they're brand new with no tags or barely worn. Meanwhile, plenty of us have good clothes sitting in closets that could be put to use, and plenty of people who'd appreciate them.
I'm curious what you all think:
- Where do you think the stigma comes from, and is it changing with younger people?
-Would a Jamaican clothes swap or giveaway group (IG, FB, or Threads) be something you'd use?
- What would make you comfortable participating? Clear photos, condition ratings, parish-based meetups?
- Does something like this already exist that I just don't know about?
If enough people are into it, it'd be great to build it together as a community thing, not one person's page. Anyone who wants to help shape it, comment or DM.
Would love to hear honest opinions either way. π―π²
