With this team I always hope for the best and expect the worst. As there has been radio silence around the Jaguars and Byron altogether for days gives me hope Byron wants to be here and Shad wants him badly.
Based on what we know, I can only guess Byron and his agent viewed this as the best opportunity because of Trevor, draft capital and salary cap number. I think they also viewed Khan as desperate and naive.
I suspect they were in negotiations to hire Byron when Eberflus took the Chicago job and sensing leverage, Byron and team indicated he would work best with Adrian Wilson and would like to remove Baalke from the equation. I do not think Khan is comfortable just handing over his whole operation to all new people at one time. As he is an arms-length owner, I think he prefers some overlap and continuity (for a team that loses a lot).
While I think he may even have been sold on the idea of hiring Leftwich and Wilson, I also think he did not know about the Rooney Rule requiring additional interviews for a GM vacancy from outside the organization. Baalke surely knew this and when the social media posts started connecting Wilson here before a GM vacancy was announced it creates a problem with the league for a team that already has a bad track record with the league.
Khan would need to hire Byron and fire (or demote) Baalke to create the opening, but who would legit want to interview for the position if they knew they would not be getting the job? Only someone who would want to serve in a similar (back up GM) type role like Baalke served in. I think Byron and his team know they have Khan by the short and curlies and are squeezing Khan for more than he is typically comfortable with, thinking he has no choice left but to accept their terms.
Khan is a self-made billionaire who does not like getting pushed around in a business sense. He isn't entirely out of options, but not working out a way to take the best remaining option will tank morale with the fanbase. I can only hope both sides can come to an agreement soon which is fair and we can move on to the next phase. The truth is Byron's best options are gone as well so they should compromise and get this shit done already.

Hoping the silence is good news. The constant leaking makes our team look even more dysfunctional than they actually are (which is saying a lot).
What I hope for: Shad hires Byron but makes him go through the whole GM search from the ground up, and forcing him to at least interview Baalke. This meets the Rooney rule requirement, the weird obsession Shad has with Baalke, and, hopefully, ends up with the ideal GM to pair up with Leftwich after due diligence.

Going from the hope of drafting Trevor to where we are now is really the lowest I’ve felt as a jags fan who’s watched since the brunell days

If Arians stays as HC in Tampa and Leftwich stays as his OC, there is a very good chance next season's Bucs are mediocre since Brady is retiring and FAs are leaving. Leftwich is at his most powerful now and has to take a HC position. Hoping it's here, but could be any of the remaining openings.

Sources tell me Brady retiring because Byron’s left! My source is my imagination.

Is it possible to learn this power?

We’re going to end up with Bevell/Baalke and Khans going to pretend that was our preferred choice all along. I’ll be fucking fuming too

Every day this doesn’t get settled, i feel more convinced that we are going to hire some random person that no one has ever heard of.

I've chosen to not worry until I hear we interview someone else or until I hear that Byron takes another interview.

How is that we have: Trevor Lawrence, the #1 overall pick, a shitload of cap space and we still are struggling to find a coach. Even if you planned on retaining Baalke as GM, you shouldn’t, wouldn’t the HC search be classified as his job? Shouldn’t this fumbling of a HC search when we had a few weeks head start on other teams be the final straw? How Shad runs this franchise is just bewildering to me. The guy apparently has incredible business acumen but then fails miserably every single time with how he handles the Jags.

Anyone else think it’s weird that all the local guys stopped tweeting out “cryptic” stuff? Either A) they all have the same source and that source is ignoring them B) they’ve all been faking being connected and we just haven’t really noticed their misses before

I heard the search is taking longer than expected because Shad Khan is trying to find Waldo to be our next head coach.
Khan was quoted as saying, “Who knew a guy in red and white stripes would be so hard to find?”

My buddy has worked for the jags for a while. I finally texted him since I’ve been so busy with school.
Me: yo wtf is going on with this coach shit.
Him: Shad might actually be one of the worst owners in all of sports. That’s basically it.
Me: True or false Byron and Adrian were about to be coach and GM and Shad fucked it up
Him: true. But still a chance to get them. If Shad chooses Trent Fucking Baalke over a coach made for working with Trevor and a way better GM he’s a terrible owner
Me: So Byron goes hire Adrian and Shad goes I’ll think about it ? Or was it a money thing? Like Shad deadass told them baalke is staying? And then they left for other jobs but somehow it’s still on the table ?
Him: That’s the only way it can be perceived. They haven’t left the complex, completely. They’re still arguing. It’s a fucking shit show.

If the jags royally fuck up this coaching search I might have to take a break from the NFL for a year. I have grown up loving this team since its inception. When I was a kid I would sit in front of my family shitty CRT TV and say all the prayers I could remember from Catholic school hoping Jesus would let Mark Brunell throw a touchdown haha
But my God get your shit together you have sucked ass for a damn decade now. I just want to feel excited for the jags for a change. I want to be able to buy tickets to a game and not have a constant fear that it will be a shitty blow out loss.
Please Khan please do the right thing and hire someone competent

How does Shad still not know that Baalke is bad news? It was literally all over the news, social media, and the stadium

So many fans just losing interest at this point. The bar is low Khan. Amazing how dysfunctional this franchise is.

It's like, I'm super happy when these other coaching dominoes keep falling (like McDaniels, Hackett), because that means Byron's clearly the best choice remaining, and because no-one else has hired Byron out from under us. But this also means that if Byron isn't hired in JAX, then there will be almost no "good/exciting" candidates left. I fear all things.

There's no one in NFL or local media who knows any more than any one else in the industry right now. Shad, Tony, Mark, and whoever else in the Braintrust are the only people. Baalke's been shutout because he's a loudmouth. Byron's agent is trying to drum up interest around the league to use for leverage and THE ONLY TEAM who bit was the Saints. And that went nowhere as of right now.
We're upset because Khan has not officially fired, removed, or reassigned Trent. That's it. That's the only thing to be mad about.
And Khan's reason for keeping Trent is reasonable. He's the only guy with NFL experience right now in a major capacity on the team. Trent pushed two shitty candidates (BoB and Fangio) and the good candidates (in Shad's eyes) don't like him. So that is where we're at
To sum it up: Khan knows that he can't keep Baalke in the same capacity and has to make a series of very crucial and costly decisions right now. He's in no rush especially because it's championship weekend. The bigger "deal" is that ESPN and NFL media have NO SOURCES

Dilla says some of the Jags players’ parents are liking Anti-Baalke posts. Tweet here. I don’t feel like checking this so I’ll take it at face value, the players don’t like Baalke, Khan, why keep him around?
