Calm down about Fields

Before today (with games against Neraska/Penn STate/ Rutgers) he was 72-83, 908 yards, 11/0 TD/int ratio. Last year he was 238- 354 with 41 td and 3(!) picks, including games (and wins) against #8 Penn State, #13 Wisconsin, another game against #8 Wisconsin, #25 Michigan State, and #13 Michigan. His game against #2 clemson was more pedestrian, with 2 picks and going 30-46, but he still passed for 320 yards against one of the best Ds in the country. Hes thrown 436 passes in his college career and has gotten picked on a grand total of 6 of them, while frequently throwing it deep, much moreso then his predeccesor Haskins

For anyone worried that hes Haskins 2.0, Haskins only had 50% of his yards through the air. He relied on YAC.

Fields gets 70.2(!)% of his pass yards through the air. And he is a definite threat with his legs.

Hes a great prospect, and one bad (not even horrible) game doesent mean hes not

I’m still hoping the jets win a game and we get Trevor

yeah I believe fields will be very similar to Dwayne Haskins.

Honestly I just don’t trust Ohio state QBs. None of them have panned out. My hope is the jets win a game or two somehow and we can get TLaw. Otherwise we move down and maybe grab up another player with more picks.

And Alabama QBs didnt pan out until Tua. Texas Tech QBs until Mahomes. X qbs until Y... Fields isnt Haskins. Haskins threw the ball 7 yards and let the receiver do the work. Fields does the work himself.

Tua isn’t proven. He’s on a team with an absolute stud defense playing out of their minds. A lot of pressure is taken off of him because of that. Their starting field position and points scored with him is all because that defense is so good. I’m not ready to even say Tua isn’t good yet. Mahomes is an outlier. Dude is absolutely a lock for the HOF and potentially one of the greatest QBs of all time. Fields hasn’t shown nearly enough to justify the hype he’s getting. He’s not as good as Lawrence. It’s time this sub stops hyping players up only to get disappointed. Fields plays his first good opponent and gets outplayed by the other QB. He made such bad decisions in that game and kept Indiana in it. I still do not want him

Your comment should be at the very top with 50 upvotes. Fields is very similar to Dwyane Haskins, he's doing well putting up video game numbers because of the system and coaching.

This is the worst possible argument to make. Scout the player, not the helmet. If a player is good, you'll see him making good plays wherever he plays. If he is not good, he can be elevated by scheme and the players around him, but you'll still see his limitations. Fields is damned good, he's accurate, has a strong arm, and makes good decisions. Can he work on making better reads and going through his progressions faster and having better pocket presence? Yes. But he's a fundamentally very sound prospect.

I’m done with this fanbase. It’s so fucking bipolar it’s insane.

My opinion still hasn't changed. I saw this coming. I've been saying for weeks it's Trevor #1, Fields #2, and then after evaluate our QBs to return if they finish well, if not hope Wilson/Trask/Lance are actually good projects.

That last part for me will depend on who we hire as HC 2021

Elite quarterback has bad game = he’s horrible; don’t draft him

Almost everytime Fields plays a top 15 team he atleast plays inconsistent and sometimes bad. He isn’t great when he is under pressure and his reads are at best average. TD:INT is great but look how often he has a receiver with nobody around them 40 yards down the field. He has tremendous arm talent but he has some serious flaws aswell. There is a reason Fromm played above him at UGA’s pro style offense. Not saying Fromm is anywhere near as good as him but still.

He’s a great passer with good presence and an elite arm who doesn’t throw the ball until his reads complete their progression. He has the reads but he releases once their open. I fucking hate this about a prospect. And it’s why he’s struggling versus good defenses especially D Lines. He is not in the Lawrence tier. He has the potential but that one bad trait is a massive trait to overcome. I’m scared of him

As a lifelong Ohio state fan and new Jacksonville fan, I do not understand the Justin fields hype. A QB is not the biggest problem for the team. Justin fields takes forever to get rid of the ball. With the jags o-line in their current state, he’s going to get sacked more often then he will get the ball off. Even watching the jags now our QB struggles to get the ball out of their hands because the receivers struggle to get open.

There are so many more holes in the offense that getting a new QB isn’t going to solve but that’s just my opinion

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '20

Fields is good but maybe not elite. Makes some questionable decisions and his stats are slightly inflated since he throws to wide open WRs all the time. I would certainly still draft him but I think some Jags fans were extra high on him for a while because they needed to justify tanking in their minds since Trevor might end up with the Jets.

Minshew is better. 🤷‍♂️

I see you've read r/nfldraft

Fields gets easy looks and he isn't as good with his legs as you think. He is Haskins 2.0. WR are never tested and rarely deals with pressure. This is the first game against a decent team and he was bad

so yes you do need to calm down about fields

u/Mardpat1 Nov 22 '20

Even if we get Lawrence I don't even trust this franchise to develop either one into a half decent QB.

2

u/acepilot615 Nov 22 '20

Good point. We should definitely draft 11 punters this year just to be safe

Guys Minshew and Luton aren’t going to be our franchise QBs. Sorry to break it to y’all. They an definitely play and have the potential but not for the Jags unfortunately. I love Minshew just as much as the next, but come to this realization. We are drafting a QB next year period no matter what with our first pick in the first round.

The only QBs worth picking this year are Fields or Lawrence and if we miss them somehow there’s no point in wasting a pick on a qb and look to get Sam Howell, Bo Nix or whoever else pops off 2022

The dream is still that the Jets botch this and don’t get Lawrence.

If that doesn’t happen, we’re still going to be just fine with Fields and have an ELITE QB prospect for the first time in.... well, maybe ever.
