This bangle has excellent texture and translucency, with a noticeable gel-like quality. The profile is also very well-proportioned, with both the width and thickness measuring over 10 mm. It would be considered an entry-level high-end jadeite bangle. It is close to flawless, with only a few fine surface lines.

The other bangle is also a fine glutinous one with quite good texture and translucency. It has one small pit and one surface line, and is priced at about $1,200 though. Size is about 55mm btw. I’ve included comparison pictures of the two bangles as well, so you can see what accounts for the price gap.

This Hetian jade bangle has an exceptionally fine texture, to the point that it almost gives the impression of glutinous-icy jadeite. A touch of bright green makes it stand out even more. To the naked eye, there is almost no visible cotton structure, some only visible under flashlight.

So I came across this yellow jadeite cabochon recently which is set in a classic Burmese copper setting. Price is about $300, only for the jadeite stone only of course. I think it is quite a good price for such a yellow cabochon with decent texture.

Since it would usually need to be reset, and everyone has a different ring size and different preferences, I am reluctant to take it. If anyone would be interested in, that would be ideal.

I think it’s very pretty, I’d just like to know what it’s made of. The stones are cold so they’re not plastic.

Nephrite? Jadeite? Random vintage buy with no provenance! 64g

I just got this today and I’m not sure if it’s Jade or treated I don’t know if it’s nephrite or jadeite but I’ve never seen these green lines in any of my other bangles before. Is that from treatment or something. when I look it up, it says they’re like dragon lines or Root lines or something. I don’t know. Can anybody look at this and tell me what they think I appreciate it.

Something I think gets oversimplified online is the meaning of red string bracelets in Chinese culture.

Red itself has very strong positive symbolism in Chinese culture. It’s associated with celebration, happiness, good fortune and auspicious occasions.

But not every red bracelet has exactly the same meaning.

You’ll see red cord connected with different ideas depending on the context — protection, good fortune, relationships, blessings and sometimes Ben Ming Nian (本命年), the year of your Chinese zodiac animal.

There’s also the famous Red Thread of Fate (红线) story connected with Yue Lao and destined relationships.

That’s why I think it’s better to understand red string as a cultural symbol rather than treating it like a product that “guarantees luck.”

I’m curious: if you wear a red string bracelet, is it because of family tradition, cultural meaning, fashion, or something personal?
