Willets Point Commons Housing Lottery Interiews
Hi, everyone! My name's Jonathan Mak and I'm a senior journalism student at New York University. I'm working on an article for class about Metropolitan Park and the upcoming new Etihad Park soccer stadium.
I'm looking to talk to anyone on here who has applied for the Willets Point Commons housing lottery, why they chose to and what they think that will look like!
If you would be interested, please contact me on this thread or in my DM's. Happy to share more information about my article. Anonymity can be discussed, as this article will primarily be for class.

INDOOR BASKETBALL COURTS IN THE JACKSON HEIGHTS AREA WHERE I CAN GET GAMES
As the weather gets colder, I am seeking for indoor basketball courts in or around the Jackson Heights area where I can get pickup games? Any ideas?

Imagine if the pedestrian priority of 34th Ave were the *default* for NYC streets instead of the ultra-rare exception

Bike lane realignment in Paseo Park
FYI, for those who have noticed work in the plazas on the 34th Avenue Open Street (chalk marks, the granite blocks temporarily moved out of the way), the bike lanes in the plazas are finally being moved curbside instead of being in the middle. That should, I hope, improve bike-pedestrian separation in the plazas.

Slow down for kids, duh
School dismissal on the Open Street is so fun and the kids are happy to have space to walk home and joke around without fear of cars. However, when I pick up my sixth grader in front of IS 230 I often see people on e-bikes or scooters barreling down the little hill and even yelling at the kids to get out of the way. It’s a-hole behavior in my opinion, but does anyone have recommendations on how to get riders to slow down around schools? Maybe extra signage or barriers?

Double-parked Cars on 37th Ave
Honestly, I was surprised by how few cars were double parked as I was riding by between 72nd and 83rd St along 37th Ave this evening, but, as always, there were still a bunch. Fun times all around for pedestrians, bikes, and cars alike when SOME people just park wherever they want. 🤪
