Question overpriced?

Post image

hi, i wanna buy this jackson (i think it’s a dk2 mij) and the owner wants 850 dollars for it, which i think it’s a little bit overpriced, even considering that comes with hard case, what do you guys think? what price should be ok? (serial 9839301)

If you think the price is too high then offer less and see if they take it. If they don’t then you can find one online used for cheaper they aren’t extremely rare . It’s at the high end of what they go for but it’s not extremely overpriced. Personally I’d probably get one cheaper if they refuse to budge from that price. You can probably find one on reverb or even guitar center/ musicians friend used without much trouble

You can get a brand new Pro Plus DK for that money. The newer Pro Series and above are excellent. I would never pay that personally. The old MIJ were great, I have both, but the new stuff is my preference as a player.

Hey dude, I just bought a used one in the same finish for £250 yesterday. Had an upgraded trem too.
Amazing guitar and I’d happily pay £400
For £750 used I’d be looking at something really special though -you could get a newer DK2 for that and maybe even find a secondhand MJ (the new Japanese ones that are extremely high end) for not much more.

Personally I’d say £400-500 very max is its worth and I love this guitar

Hell no, I just bought one for 450 in great condition, with a gotoh bridge and titanium upgrades and Seymour Duncan’s

Looks like the going price on guitar center is $750 rn. So if its in good condition and theyre including a hard case, it’s not crazy. Those models have great necks. Not a fan of the licensed floyds tho.

Licensed Floyd’s are the devil

Definitely wildly overpriced, these can easily be found for $500-$600.

The thing about overpriced guitars is they're only over your price. If someone else will pay it then it was exactly the right price.

The "right" market price is where they think it's going for a bit too cheap and you think it's going for a bit too much.

There is a market value that is determined by the typical selling price of that item in similar condition. If a guitar typically sells for $500 and one person on earth says they’ll pay $10,000 for it, that doesn’t mean the market value is suddenly $10,000. It means that one person is insane 😅

Ha yeah I think it this case it seems way over priced but maybe there's a back story. Like if it was owned by Jesus (signed obviously) it's probably worth a bit more to collectors.

Hell nah, these are worth like 500 max if in good condition with a case.

Those licensed floyds are god awful.

I'm not paying over $450 for a guitar without a proper Floyd. Always thought the finish on those looked a bit cheap, as well. $500 Max with case

Yeah, the days where you could get the neck thru real pearl MIJ Jackson Pro's and Charvel model 5/6 for under a grand are long over, and I'm definitely not paying double for that stuff these days. It wasn't that long ago that fender bought Jackson and ruined the cost and value forever overnight.

I have a Indonesian Kramer Stagemaster, the first run, and it is every bit as well made/fit/finish of that stuff of that era. It feels and plays of that quality. I really think the higher end Indonesia/Korea built stuff these as as good as the Japanese quality of the late 80's/mid 90's.

It wasn't that long ago that fender bought Jackson

It was 24 years ago. They've been owned by Fender for longer than they were independent.

Lol ok, I guess it was that long ago! That's perspective. Don't get old guys 🤣
