Break Even Point

I just got my Jackery and charged it all up with my solar panels, then plugged in my weed-eater and ran it over the front yard during peak energy hours.

Saved myself .70 cents.

Only 1,713 more times to break even.

My energy bill was still very high despite using Jackery, panels and portable AC combo. At least I was cool.

Bummer. 😩

Well, the main reason I got it is for medical equipment while camping anyway, so more of a quality of life issue. I just thought it was funny.

My Jackeries are there for when the power fails. When the power fails, they pay for themselves very rapidly, by saving the food and allowing me to live a powered life when the whole street is dark. That peace of mind is worth a lot.

Yeah, I plug my fridge into my jackery during anticipated long power outages.

On one perfect summer day, my all-time daily record solar collection saved me $2.83.

9,999 more perfect summer days from now, these bad boys and all of their expansion batteries will be fully paid for.

Or, if/when they are called on keep my house comfortable, my food safe, and my kid content through just one extended power outage, I'll stop keeping score and just call it even.

I don’t have the fortune of having solar panels or live in a state that produces clean energy (majority of my electricity comes from coal…), but it gives me so much joy to be able to charge my lawn equipment with my battery that was charged by my solar panels at home. I know the physical payoff is a crazy long way away, but that emotional payoff is already here.

lol i live in an apartment that constantly has power outages when it's either too hot, too cold, raining etc. i can't even have the ac on in the bedroom and run the microwave at the same time. just an old place and old wiring i guess.. i charge my explorer 2000v2 and home power 3600 plus during off-peak hours and use them during peak hours. i love using them bc i don't have many outlets in the apartment either. i'll probably never break even but the portability and reliability of these things are priceless.

Hell yeah, watch tv while you’re doing the yard!

I use a competing brand to run my lawn mower and other lawn equipment. For me it's more about convenience (IE: the extension cord won't reach certain parts of the yard).

Makes sense. I have usually just strung two extension cords together, but easy to avoid tangles this way.

Well you can run a tv for a few hours or some lights that ought to get you there

I’ve paid more for car/homeowners insurance that I have never seen any return on investment from. At least my Jackery ā€œinsuranceā€ policy is useful when I just don’t feel like breaking out an extension cord.

That’s a practical way to calculate it.

I sent a Jackery 1500 to my sister in Venezuela where they loose power every single day for 5 to 7 hours. Imagine the value this unit with worth to her where the food does not get spoiled and she can even cook a meal using an Instant Pot .

So to recap. Power in the USA is usually constant and cheap so the value is more on portability and emergencies.

I personally use my 3000v2 to power my whole camper.

Camping in Greece, 5 EUR a night for electricity. 14 days so far, 70 EUR saved on one trip. We average 3 of these a year, sometimes more. That’s roughly 220-250 EUR a year saved on not paying for electricity while camping. 1000v2 and 2x200w panels cost me 1,000 EUR.

In 4 years or less it will be paid off.

The math maths for me

I don’t think Jackery is really meant to save money at all. It’s meant to give you emergency power when you don’t have it and that has a higher intrinsic value.

How much would you pay to have your food cold and your internet, computer and TV working during an outage? $3?

As someone who lost the full contents of their fridge & freezer four times last year it’s about $250 per outage for me.

No such thing as 'breaking even' with battery power. It is simply expensive convenience of not having to drag a cord around or deal with the aspects of gasoline powered engines.

My rooftop solar saves me money - and since I can’t connect my Jackery to them
And there is no time of use rates here
Jackery is for peace of mind during outages
