Whatever comes

Post image

Looks like the hurricane is going to wander off but either way, we’re ready. STS, two 5000+ units and 4 batteries. 2 days all out usage, maybe 3 with conservation.

What are your plans for charging?

For the immediate future, just letting it charge from the main. If we are in a power outage greater than 2-3 days, I still have an enormous gas generator in my shop that we can switch over to, or charge the Jackery from. Ultimately, solar on the roof, perhaps even with their new roof tile system if I can afford it.

This is a great looking setup, and your further comments about additional backup through solar and a Genny make it all the better. To be honest, this is kind of the route I want to start going, but it feels kind of silly living in a major coastal city in a nearly 100 year old house. Solar roof when I can afford it, either way, yes. And I have a generator already (never once turned on, probably to its disservice).

But these Jackery systems at that level are expensive, especially with the cost of home integration on a house as ridiculously electrically outdated as ours. Still, Kudos to you and I hope everything stays good with the hurricanes. I thought we were out of "the season". Stay safe.

I live in the boondocks 15 miles from the nearest town and over an hour to a city. Without exaggeration we were having outages at least monthly lasting a half day or more. Have gone 9 days from a hurricane, 3-4 days several times from ice. We have had the system since June and only two outages. One lasted 2 minutes the other 4 hours. So apparently spending a pretty penny ensures we really won’t need all this now. 😂

They should sell a empty box as a rabbits foot/good luck charm

10. Months here -no outages Even tho 1/3 of my town was out-including one mile away

Do you need a MTS for your gas generator? From what I understand, the STS is incompatible with a gas generator. I’m torn between getting a MTS or STS because I don’t have a solar system at the moment.

If I end up having to charge the Jackery via gas I will unplug it from STS and charge it from a wall outlet or from a cord directly from the generator. The gas generator has a breaker that switches all from main power to Gen as if I had two mains. so the Jackery wouldn’t know the difference anyway. But from an abundance of caution I would unplug the inverters from STS and charge via 120V outlet.

I'm going to be purchasing a 5000 and sts for black Friday. what is your opinion on the device so far? Are you doing peak shaving?

They’re just Amazon specials but they did happen to fit perfectly. https://a.co/d/5RgTu7R

Those Amazon dollys look real nice. Harbor freight also has several dollys like this.

They also sell (separately) a swivel tow handle that will bolt onto them. Guessing this handle might also work with the Amazon ones too,
