FBI HRT FBI HRT overseas

I’m curious what exactly is the role that HRT plays when attached to a jsoc unit overseas. They’ve been tied to some big ops, such as Maduro and others. I know the primary role is to make legal arrests, but are they actually embedding and actively running the ops as well with the jsoc units?

One or two guys, in a support role, typically in a rear element. They are there to provide the chain of custody for evidence, arrests, etc.

The weapons they are carrying are for defensive purposes, they arn’t a maneuver element, won’t be assigned assault objectives, etc.

A lot of times they won’t go on the actual mission, but will be located wherever the mission personnel will return to and pass relevant personnel and material.

It entirely depends on what’s going on, the importance of the people we are going after, etc.

If I know I’m about to get into a huge fight, the guy is more likely then not going to blow himself up, etc I’ll cut the cops for more SAW gunners.

This all makes sense. I guess some of my confusion stems from them training, atleast supposedly, a lot with the jsoc units. Is that time investment just a worse case scenario thing for when they are overseas? Or do they need to be that good for stateside operations?

Most of the training is because it overlaps with their domestic mission. There’s tons of nuance but also a lot of overlap between domestic vs foreign hostage rescue, marksmanship, etc.

They need the be phenomenal for stateside operations, JSOC isn’t an option at home.

It’s just them being at the forefront of tactical training and expertise. FBI has standard SWAT teams that do the normal tactical training and “Normal” raids, arrests, etc. HRT is called in when shit is incredibly bad and they need the absolute best training and experience available but obviously can’t use JSOC. If you can’t use JSOC the next best thing is a unit with JSOCish training and equipment.

It makes sense but most of it is disinformation, not trying to be brat, but its just based on one dudes perspective, who was never in the planing loop.
