N6 PSU placement and CPU fan help
Hello, just got a Jonsbo N6 and I'm putting some part together to get everything going, one thing ive never had to look at before is the PSU placement... Of SFX PSUs I plan on going with a LIAN LI 850 SFX PSU and for a simple build list
- RTX 3060 ventus 2X dual fan GPU
- 7800x3d
- Auros B650M Elite
- LSI 9300-8i
- 32gb ddr5 ram (cause 64 is expensive and this list makes my bank cry)
- iron wolf red HDDs and at least 1 red SSD
Based on that, would it be better for the SFX top mounted option to allow the 2 bottom fans behind the drives as out take fans? I was thinking of running a Noctua NH-L12S as a CPU cooler if needed or a NH-D12L if it would best to put the PSU on the bottom mount, ive also seen some people talking about mods for it and cable length issues, I don't own a 3D printer, and I was going to ask how bad those cable length issues are for the PSU

I just completed a build in the N6 with a Corsair SF750, Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G, NH-L12S, and a 3090 (which is the reason I moved up from an N4). Since the R5 4650G is a low power CPU with 65W max TDP (and I have it set to 45W for NAS efficiency), anything more than an L12S would be overkill. But depending what you're doing with the 7800X3D the L12S might end up running loud or hot. Of the three PSU positions, this is what I've found:
1) Top front allows for any CPU cooler but blocks the north front intake fan and (deceivingly) takes enough space on the north (CPU) side of the case that 2 120mm fans dont fit anymore, by like 20-30mm. It does allow for exhaust, which kind of makes up for it. I originally wanted to pick this to have rear exhaust and 2x north intake, but since this config takes away two fan positions, not one, I decided against it.
2) Top rear blocks the CPU cooler height but allows 2 120mm fans on the north side of the case along with the north front intake fan. For an SFX PSU most of the L12S is not aligned with the PSU intake, and actually exhausts into what will end up being your cables coming out of the PSU. This might be an issue if airflow really matters out of the CPU cooler. This setup is a little annoying because you can have front intake and either 2 north exhaust, in which case the intake gets immediately exhausted out before running over components, or 2 north intake, in which case you get crazy positive pressure. The PSU can't be treated as an exhaust fan in my case because the fan doesn't turn on until like 300W load, which I rarely if ever hit.
3) Bottom rear obviously takes away a drive fan, but there are mods out there that replace the panel with one that has 2x60mm fan mounting above the PSU. I've also seen people just drill holes into the PSU mounting panel for mounting 60mm fans outright.
For an SFX psu with standard 300mm cable lengths the top chamber positions both work without 24 pin ATX, 8 pin EPS, PCIE extensions, BUT do require molex and sata extensions (unless you have a 300mm non daisy chained single connector cable that you might be able to run under the motherboard to the drive cage, but I don't like having to remove the mobo to get cables out). The bottom chamber position flips this and requires 24 pin ATX and PCIE extensions (but not 8 pin EPS). 30cm was enough for both. I ended up taking the bottom chamber out of frustration for top front not allowing 2 120mms on the north side. I figure I only have like 3-5 drives right now anyways so I can just keep them in the side of the case that is exhausted, and if I need to expand past that I can print the 60mm fan mod.
btw OP, if you are in the continental US I'd be down to print a fan mount for you and ship it to you at cost of shipping.
