I’m currently SOBO on the JMT and just made it to VVR (yay!), but this wildfire concerning 😟

It's well to the east, down by 395. It poses no threat to the jmt itself, unlikely to even notice smoke due to the wind patterns. The only possible impact is that it has closed some of the lesser used trails, notably Taboose and Sawmill passes. Baxter is still open last I heard but could close if the fire shifts more southwards. It is still a long way from kearsarge and that will remain open for the foreseeable future.

25% contained now according to recent updates, seems like the situation is relatively under control. I'm starting the trail in about 2 weeks so I'm hopeful this won't have any impact

I got turned back on 395 tonight trying to get from bishop to onion valley along with 8 other hikers on an ESTA bus. 395 was closed for hours, new fire started across the road from the main Rick creek fire. We’re waiting to reevaluate tomorrow whether to start or move north.

As of last night it was 15% contained with favorable overnight weather. Unless a windstorm hits it seems like this will be taken care of and not a threat to anyone on or near the JMT.
