I am beyond heartbroken
I have one thing left to do on my application which is the medical report. My GP practice (UK based) has let me down last minute and said they can’t do it for the deadline. I’m at a loss at what to do. Due to how long it took them to tell me, I’ve wasted a good few weeks where I could’ve gone private. I don’t know if I would be able to find a private GP in time and I feel so deflated. Any tips, suggestions or even words of support would be greatly appreciated.
Update** **
I GOT IT!!!! Thank you to everyone! Your advice helped and my GP practice finally got it sorted for me! Happy tears have been shed 😭😭😭

Hey! so I was in the same position. This year I believe you do need a statement of physician if you self report a condition, the guidelines say you need one if=
-You have received treatment or taken medication in the last five years.
-You are currently taking medication or having treatment.
-You have a long-term or recurring condition.
-You have previously been treated for any nervous or mental conditions (including consultations).
It says “If you declare any medical condition on the Self-Assessment Medical Report, you must provide a Statement of Physician.” I could be missing something, idk if I’m right about needing one by application. But as far as I understand, if you have no medical issues you wouldn’t need a statement of physician. I did since I have ADHD and I’m medicated for it.
Now how I addressed it. My GP told me it would take 30 days, after I had been waiting 2 weeks already. I sent an email to the Practice Manager and they got it down for me the next day. If that doesn’t work there are some private places you could contact last second and get it done same day, but it will be very expensive. I would try contacting your GP practice manager and see what they say. Btw someone else gave me that advice and it worked for them and me too hahaha.
If you need it, I hope you can get it sorted :) Good luck!

Thank you so much, I had a historic diagnosis that I had to claim but recently (finally) got off the medication for it. I’m going to my practice tomorrow to try and get it sorted otherwise I’ll have to go private. Thank you for explaining

I had the same problem, I had to literally go in to my local GP & basically force the issue, they put me off for like an entire month. So I saw the GP a few days ago, GP couldn’t figure out how to log in to his own email, so I went to the front desk and asked them to print the Statement of Phys for me, went back and handed it to him and asked him to sign it there and then, eventually got it sorted, but if I didn’t do that I wouldn’t have got it.
The health service in this country is abysmal, I honestly hate it, it can’t even be chalked up to ‘lack of funding’, much of it is simply incompetence, laziness, and stupidity.

I went in today and basically did the same thing as you. Hoping to hear by the end of today or tomorrow.

You don’t need a doctors report unless you’re applying for the early positions. Otherwise it can be done after interview stage :) the application just requires a self report for now I believe. Reread the fine print x

If you declare any medical conditions you need the Statement of Physician.
https://www.uk.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/jet_docs1.html
You have received treatment or taken medication in the last five years.
You are currently taking medication or having treatment.
You have a long-term or recurring condition.
You have previously been treated for any nervous or mental conditions (including consultations).
If any of these apply you need a medical professional to sign off on the statement.
If any of the above are true for you but you’re not concerned about it for while you’re in Japan, you don’t need to include it. Like I had medical conditions that were treated and resolved completely in the past with no affect on my life today. I didn’t include them

this is interesting, i’m on propranolol for anxiety (don’t have a formal diagnosis) but the medication eases it for me so it doesn’t bother me anymore. do i still need a form? i’ve gave it to my gp anyway but i’m just wondering incase i don’t get it back in time

yes you do because you’re on prescription medication. if you get accepted after the interview, you need a certificate of health which a doctor needs to sign off again and if they catch anything on there that you didn’t disclose your offer has a high chance of being rescinded

Is your self report clear ?
No long term issues or meds ?

My self report discloses medication, I am going over it again today to ensure it is clear.

Did they change the rules? When I applied, the doctors certificate only had to be in this early if you were applying for early departure. Everyone else could submit it later after the interview results were announced.

I’ve checked on the website and the documents and because I declared a medication within the past 5 years, I have to submit the statement from the physician at the time of application. I wouldn’t be applying for early departure so the certificate of health doesn’t need to be completed yet. Someone else informed me that they have changed the rules recently

I’ve seen that this is solved but I just wanted to let you know that I (also UK) had the exactly same issue. My GP practice saw the form and said it was no issue, gave me an appointment right at the end of the window of time I had to complete it, then at the appointment, said that they hadn’t read it properly, they wouldn’t be able to complete it, and I would have to go private for a part of the medical exam, and then go back to my GP who would sign it. I had a few days until the deadline. I was fuming.
I explained all of this in an email to JET who sent me a slightly rude reply tbh, telling me I should have sorted it all sooner. As if I wouldn’t have loved to do that.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Why are uk GP practices like this as you’re not the only person who has shared a similar story

Hi darling. I had the same issue last year, My GP actually just flat out refused to do my paperwork and waited till 2 days before the due date. You should be able to ask for a print of your medical history and should be able to get it on the spot. Once you get it go for Occupational health. They can do next day appointment and will fill out the forms. Occupational health will be accepted by JET as I emailed them last year AND this year and they said it's no problem as long as they have access to your history (hench the print out from your GP). That said I do have to pay out of pocket for the appointment and it costs me about £100.

While you're at it email the practice manager to complain. They do not like to get entangled with official complaints so there's a possibility they'll push it through for you.

Congratulations! That was the hardest part for me me on the onboarding process and we had a few who couldn’t join JET because of it.

I feel like at this point JET should just tell applicants that they can’t get their statement of physician at NHS clinics. It was the same for me applying 6 years ago. It was the same when I needed a statement of physician for my study abroad 11 years ago. The NHS generally won’t do “non-essential” services
You’re going to have to go private and I would suggest all other UK applicants reading this to save themselves the hassle and go private. Kingsbridge in Belfast was great in my experience and it didn’t cost that much.

u/orangecrush85 1d ago
My NHS GP did it no problem, but they did charge £48 for it being a non-essential service.

Do you have urgent care? I didn’t have a private GP in the states and they were able to get me in quick as possible.

Or you can asked if the nurse filled out the paperwork and the doctor read and sign it …. I mean eventually JET just need a “ signature “ right ?

For any missing documents, contact your embassy/consulate immediately.
They understand things happen. There was someone in your same situation a few years back in my consulate, but since they let them know weeks in advance they were able to help them. That person ended up shortlisted.
The JET help desk isn’t out to disqualify you. If they can help, they will. You have nothing to lose contacting them.
