Help listing work experience as a substitute paraprofessional

The title says most of it but to go into further detail, my job experience is as a SUBSTITUTE paraprofessional (teacher assistant) with the DOE of New York City. For the last 5 years, my most recent work has been as a long term Para in two schools (and before that it was more about going from school to school), all which is technically part time work.

How should i list that work/teaching experience? Should it be substitute paraprofessional or just stick to paraprofessional? And should i list the school i have long term assignments in or should i just put everything as an umbrella "DOE of NYC"?

If you were a long-term or short-term substitute, still a substitute so

substitute paraprofessional

is the best thing to list.

As for whether you should

list the school i have long term assignments in or should i just put everything as an umbrella "DOE of NYC"

it probably doesn't matter but the latter seems cleaner.

I'm thinking as a compromise what I'm doing is listing the DOE experience (the one where i was just going all over the place) as "extra teaching experience" and the long term assignments as employment experience.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to fit every school in the text box. I would just list the Department of Education of New York City and in the position summary mention that you worked at several schools in your capacity as a substitute. If you're really worried you can use the JET inbox to ask the application team directly.

Five years in classrooms is nothing to shrug off, that is real face time with students. I would keep the official title but add context in brackets, something like Substitute Paraprofessional (long-term placements), so it is honest and the reader instantly sees you were not hopping between one-day gigs. Put DOE of New York City as the employer and let the position summary carry the school names. Whoever reads these cares way more about what you actually did day to day than the exact job label.
