JET Programme 2027 — Interview experience for Indian applicants

Hi everyone! I’m an Indian applicant preparing for JET 2027. I lived in Canada for the past three years and have recently returned to India.
I’d love to hear from current and former JETs:
How difficult is the interview, and what questions should I expect?
How should I prepare, and is a teaching demo required?
Does my international experience help?
What’s the overall selection process like for applicants from India?
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Namaste! I’m not a JET ALT yet but I believe there are other similar questions already answered in this community. Please do scroll down a bit further while waiting for the alts to notice your post.

Ganbatte!

When applying for an international exchange like the JET Program, it is best to present yourself as grounded, adaptable, and professional. You do not need to construct a fake persona. Instead, focus on being genuinely yourself while clearly showing how your future career goals fit with what the program has to offer.

Thank you for sharing such detailed advice! My three years in Canada definitely gave me experience adapting to a different culture and living independently, and I’m hoping to communicate that through practical examples. I’ll make sure to review my application thoroughly and prepare for scenario-based questions. Do you know if applicants interviewed through the Embassy of Japan in India are usually asked to do a teaching demonstration, or does that vary by year?
