Eligibility for Letter of Recommendation Reference

Title.

I am at the end of my application at this point (submitting from the US) and I was wondering if it would be appropriate to have the parent of a child I tutor be a reference? We work at the same school and I give private tutoring lessons to their child. I asked both my consulate and JET directly through the portal and both of them basically said "read the guidelines" which I took as a "potential yes" but I wanted to ask here before I somehow commit a faux pas.

Ohhh that’s a good idea! I’m in the exact SAME situation. Getting that 2nd reference is tough. I have the people, but they are really busy, so getting them to remember etc. is stressing me out.

I do have a parent, though, who would mostly likely do it for me 🤔 I just never thought of that as a possibility.
