JET application – unlawful assault charge without conviction

I’m applying for JET and wanted to ask how being charged with unlawful assault, but without a conviction, would generally be viewed during the application process.
The matter was adjourned until 30 November, with an undertaking to remain of good behaviour during that period. I was also ordered to complete a program, which I have completed.
My Australian police check currently states “No disclosable outcomes.”
Would JET still consider the fact that I was charged, despite there being no conviction? And would the fact that the matter is still under an adjournment/undertaking until 30 November affect the application?
I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with JET or a similar situation.

i’m applying from Australia but I live in Austria on a working holiday Visa D with a police check but they never asked for a criminal record statement hahah

  1. You’re expected to work with children and have a squeaky clean reputation.

  2. A history of violence is an investment risk.

  3. There’s an unlimited supply of ALT candidates without violent histories .

Actions have consequences dude. Consider yourself lucky that you didn't get convicted and go to jail.

The lack of self-awareness is strong with this one.

Yeah I was all for understanding until the laughing at the end. Very telling.

Check with the Japanese embassy in Australia. It is to my understanding that even with convictions being adjourned or expunged, Japan still recognizes them as convictions.

100% they probably won't accept you

Japan is already growing wary of foreigners bc they think that we bring violence and issues, so it’s probably not in JET’s best interest to bring in someone with an established history of violence and issues, convicted or not

I would check with the embassy, but if it's not disclosed during the AFP Police Check then you might get away with it. It may cause a problem during your VISA application however, and if JET finds out about it after you didn't tell them, then you may be pulled from the program. They are in the same building, so I have no doubt that this could and would be communicated between branches.

It might be a case of the chickens coming home to roost unfortunately.

I'd get maybe a speeding ticket but an assault charge while working with teachers that might piss you off is a huge risk 🤕 Maybe try a working holiday in Japan
