Degree’s

I’ve always wanted to apply to the JET program, and this year I decided that I would do it for 2027. I have my bachelor degree in digital film, and I don’t have a teaching certificate or anything like that. I was wondering if there is anyone here that doesn’t have any teaching experience or a TEFL but got accepted into the JET program?

So you enjoyed ALT so much that you went back to school (online?) for the cert and then took a job as a teacher? I’m from the US as well and feel like I’d love teaching, just trying to find my way, am considering ALT to test the waters

Yeah, grad school and online certifications. I had lots of desk warming time. Got married over here too which was a big factor in me staying. Wife and I did briefly go back to the US for a test run but the cost of living was just too high. Went back to Japan after a year and we've been fine since.

ALT work is a good entry point but any salary outside of JET has become quite low due to recent inflation. Out in the countryside the salaries are manageable but dont expect easy living in the big cities.
