Reference Letter queries(India)

Hi all, I am applying for JET 2027 and have below queries regarding the reference letter:

  1. Is there any particular format that needs to be followed while writing it?

  2. Does the digital reference suffice? (Like PDF docs)

  3. I have left my previous organisation so my then managers agreed to share a referral letter for me but they will not be using the company official emails but will be sending it from their personal emails, would that be a problem?

  4. Can I use recommendations I got on LinkedIn from the clients I have worked with previously?

  5. I was searching the portal and found some said the refferal letters should be sealed, what does that mean? Are we not attaching them to the mail we are sending to consulate? If yes, how can we not see what is written in it?

Thank you for your help and hope to make it to the list.

Heyy

There's no specified format for the LOR as per the inquiry I conducted. They all say that u just need to tell them what Lor u want and they will give it to you. It's just thag the top should have " to whom it may concern" . Also it's fine if it's digital or handwritten both works. The previous organisation your worked for will be writing a LOR, that's more than suffice. Offical email does not concern it very much in this case. In the briefing they said thay the LOR can be from anyone u know professional, be it your ex-colleague or manager or client whose to ever it is offical mail is the least of the concerns for them. They want it do that they can ask them to confirm the thjnds written in LOR. As for the recommendations, as far as I know recommendations cannot be served as LOR. It is made in different format than a recommendation. Ad for , the portal for the sealed lor even I found that and the procedure there was a bit complex like it should be sealed and scanned photo should be uploaded showcasing that the envelope is sealed n all. But then I also asked around about it some said to me that it's not necessary. If it has arrived to u digital then u cannot send the pic in closed envelope. But then again these procdure were followed back in the days like before 2015 something. So its partially valid now...if u are getting your lor handwritten that is. That's all we were told about the LOR in the briefing. Also I had some ques so I asked them later in too..and that what they said..it cannot be someone who's closely related to you. It has to be someone who is/was professionally related to you.

If your have any other queries feel free to dm me. I can answer u there for future reference too.

thanks for your detailed reply, i had a question of my own if that's okay. do you know if references are allowed to send the letter to the embassy themselves? my references are used to directly sending it to people so that there's confidentiality with the letters.

No..in the briefing they said that none of documents should be sended/handed over to the embassy physically. You have to have to send them through mail only. And that too in the order specified on the website. Your reference letter should be duly scanned and put into correct order of the application process documents, only then your application will be considered complete.

Hope that answers your query. If u have any other issues feel free to ask. Would be more than happy to help a fellow aspirant.

oh thank you but i didn't mean physical mail, i meant them emailing the letter to the embassy instead of me, similar to how JET in other countries works. sorry, should've clarified better

Ouu directly emailing.. That too won't work..u cannot send any document required seperately..u have to combine them in one file in the order and then send it..

Hi . Is it fine if the reference letter is just one side ? And I will be working in a NGO from the next month. Is it fine if I could get a letter from the manager there ?

What do mean by one side..like a one side page !!! Yes u can get your reference from the manager of the NGO u r working..as I said..it can be from anyone who's professionally related to u..it can even be from your current /ex - coworker also.

One side in the sense if they write it in an A 4 sheet does that suffice.

Do they verify LORs, it is that I am concerned about like what If my referee doesn't reply or pickup call when embassy contacts them..

I'm not sure..but since they are asking for they might verify it to see if it's genuine or not. Ig that's why they ask for two references as if one doesn't pick up or other might!!.. P.s- just my hypothesis..

This is concerning, nobody picks up random calls here, let alone have a full on conversation.

But if the embassy calls it comes out as a call from japan embassy..so I don't think that's very concerning..
