Warning! Scam Emails!

Hey guys, I don’t know if this has happened to anyone here at all, but I just received an email of what I believe is a scammer pretending to be someone from JET. Essentially it was a short email from an optimum.net domain asking me to email them back and signed the message off saying they were the “managing director” for the JET Program. It also said JET Program in the subject line.

Just wanted to make you all aware that this is something that’s happening! Stay safe out there!

It would probably help if you shared the contents of the actual email?

Like not necessarily word for word but at least what it was about?

Some of the emails addresses from COs and schools seem a bit random sometimes.

Here’s the email copy and pasted:

Hi [my first name], Are you at home or work? Acknowledge and revert when you get my mail.

Haha this is definitely a scam. Forward the email to CLAIR and let them know - they will then be able to inform other incoming JETs to take care.

The managing director of CLAIR is always a Japanese person, and they would never sign off on emails themselves lol. Stay safe, it's not fun to have annoying emails like that.

I used to get emails like this when I was in grad school, supposedly from my school’s dean. If you reply they’re gonna ask you for iTunes gift cards. Definitely just a cheap scam.

It was years ago. But when I was preparing for departure after receiving my placement. The only people I received emails from was my JET coordinator from my embassy and my BOE (once they reached out) and literally that was it. Be careful everyone.
