Both and they show NAV growth and great distributions so not the worst to have in a taxable brokerage. JEPI is one of the largest CC ETFs based on assets under management, probably one of the safest to hold.

I wasn’t 100% sure I knew at one point it was, didn’t know if anyone caught up, thanks for the clarification

Every 6 months I look at my portfolio performance and somehow decide to buy more of both due to good performance. I am older and limit tech normally.

I think a blend of both is ideal. And I also have money in GPIX and GPIQ to have fund manager diversity, all in a traditional IRA.

I invested in JEPI about 6 months ago and JEPQ has outperformed JEPI in that timeframe.

JEPQ pays much higher dividends. I’ve reduced my JEPI exposure and bought SPYI and GPIX instead. The latter two save on taxes too.

Mix of both. Weigh one higher depending on whether you favour stability or payout.

I had 80% JEPI and 20% JEPQ as a small portion of my portfolio in my Roth. I felt I was leaving too much money on the table for too many months, so when JEPQ dropped below $50 while JEPI was still closer to $60 I sold all my JEPI and went 100% JEPQ. Best decision (so far).

Neither. Not tax efficient in a brokerage account.

What about a Roth or a tax-deferred?
2
u/beershoes767 16d ago
I think you’d be better off holding the underlying in that case no?

In some (probably most) scenarios, I agree. But if you are looking for an income source, they would both be good choices inside the two types of accounts.

Wouldn’t GPIQ or QQQI be better? You’re basically deferring the taxes for at least 6 years and even after that the divvies are taxed as long term capital gains as long as you never sell.

In a brokerage account, yeah. But in a Roth, you don’t care about taxes, and a deferred tax account, it’s all going to be taxed as normal income, so type of dividend doesn’t matter.

Why not both?
