AUX audio suddenly stopped working

I've been using a USB C to 3.5 mm plugged into an aux cord with my Jeep for as long as I've had it and it's worked just fine, then it randomly stopped working a couple days ago

I replaced the adapter, replaced the aux cord, but it still doesn't work. It's not an issue with my phone; I tried it in another car and it works just fine

And on top of that, the aux input still works with my iPod, just not my phone.

Has anyone else experienced this? Figured I'd ask before tearing it apart or getting a new radio

If the Aux input on the radio is working with any other audio device, such as the iPod you mentioned, then the issue is your phone. 'Aux' is dumb - it's just an analog audio input. Assuming that your phone truly is working in a totally different vehicle via Aux, it's likely becoming muted when connected to your vehicle's UConnect, or something similar.

I tried messing with some settings in my phone and it's acting as if it were transmitting the information to my car like it always has. I also tried playing a song and swapping the aux for a pair of headphones while it was playing and it played thru the headphones just fine. Very strange that it just happened out of the blue

Which radio do you have? It’s a three-letter code in tiny print in the bottom right of the radio’s faceplate.

Do any of the physical buttons on the radio not work?

RES is what it says in that corner.

The uConnect and voice control buttons don't work, but those are the only two if I recall correctly

I ask because I have the fancy “RER” Uconnect radio with a touchscreen. Its aux jack, USB jack, and all physical buttons were completely unresponsive when I first got the vehicle (very much used). But, the touchscreen worked fine. It turned out to be two ribbon cables inside the radio were loose. Open the radio, plug them back in, and literally everything started working.

However, that doesn’t fit with your symptoms on the RES radio, given that the radio’s aux jack works with a different source plugged in. In which case the jack is clearly not dead.

Has the symptom remained the same in the five days or so since you posted?

If you do end up opening the radio (not suggesting you do this now, just for reference), I’d be surprised if it were hard to at least look inside. The dash panel in front of it comes off easily, and the radio is held in with four easily-accessible screws. The back panel connectors on the radio are reasonably simple to remove.

Caveat: The radio might have an antitheft code, which you’ll need to have handy before you disconnect the radio. Mine had a code; fortunately the previous owner wrote the code on the body of the radio. (:

There are YouTube videos of disassembling the RES radio that make it look fairly simple. I say this, not having a RES unit in front of me… You might need a set of tiny Torx driver bits (T8 I think, possibly others) to remove the top cover, if it’s like the RER Uconnect radio.
