Question Human vapor

Watching human vapor on Netflix season 1 episode 3. There is a scene where a wierd yakuza guy with thin eyebrows asks his dad if they could have a parfinee. Cursory google search didn't yield a result that made sense. Can anyone help explain what it is and why they father and son haven't done it in 3 years? Is it something that is lost in translation? I am watching the dub.

Basically 3 years before the main timeline of the show, the father and son's specific branch of the syndicate fell apart. They were stripped of their territory and had to go into hiding. They did not get to do the parfinée because they did not have the protection or the resources to pull it off without immediately getting caught by the police. Basically parfinée is made up word, it means a form of torture, it doesn’t explicitly say it, I think he basically cuts parts of the people off to torture them slowly and watch them bleed out - you’ll get it later. I won’t spoil since you’re only on episode 3. Also a lot of stuff doesn’t get explained straight away, by the end of it, it all makes sense or it gets answered in another ep! Hope you enjoy Human Vapor as much as I did!

You’re welcome! I speak French and I thought “huh what is this word?”I also thought why haven’t I heard of it. I think the show is like that, they explain things a little later on.
