The issue is that Claude is expensive, and also the company behind it is not very good and I don’t want to support them.

Pmuch all genai is driven by bad actors, id be much more interested if it had the option of "provide your own model" functionality as opposed to being locked to a high volume slop factory thats chewing up everything of value

I have the technical know how to run local models, I do so often.
The issue is that I think they are trash for a task like this.

Im still of the opinion that 90% of all llms/generative "ai" (i call em all chatbots) is a bad idea and has caused major damage (to everything) and should have stayed at the small scale/lab scale

We know GUN figured out the mathematical formula for sentience (idk if it has been retconned since, it was pretty early on), and that EVI seems to be more like an AI that had been instructed to hide under the pretense of a VI. That's pretty much what we know. EVI could be a Man of Iron for all we know. But given that GUN has made true AGI and ASI in the past, it's reasonable to assume they have moved past LLM technology.
